2011 Softball Team Named to NFCA All-Academic List

The 2011 Suffolk University Softball team was named to National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-10 All-Academic team list for the past academic year. During the 2010-11 academic calendar, Suffolk ranked fifth among all NCAA Division-III softball programs in the nation posting a 3.558 team grade-point average.

PROVIDENCE, RI – Sixth-seeded Saint Joseph's (37-8, 21-3 GNAC) upset #2 Coast Guard (37-3, 15-1 NEWMAC), 4-3, in game eight at the Providence Regional of the NCAA DIII Softball Tournament played at Rhode Island College on Friday afternoon. Freshman hurler Rae-Marie Copan (Newton, MA) allowed three runs off five hits in five innings to collect her eighth win of the season.

WENHAM, MA – Sophomore third baseman Heather Tripp (Lovell, ME) slammed a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put #2 Saint Joseph’s (34-8, 21-3 GNAC) ahead to stay in a 5-4 win over #5 Rivier College (26-14, 14-10 GNAC) in the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship game on Sunday afternoon at Gordon College.

The Emerson College Lions will clinch the top seed in the playoffs with an astonishing conference record of 22-2, and overall record of 26-10. The Gators used a four-run third inning to help guide them to a win in game one before winning game two in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the eighth inning.
