Monks’ junior pitcher, Maddie Kluna, was named MVP of the 2011 GNAC Softball tournament this past weekend. She led the Monks to their first GNAC softball title and the first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. Kluna had a clutch performance on Sunday by surrendering Rivier’s batters in the final inning of the GNAC championship with the tying run in scoring position, to secure the Monks’ conference title.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Hummel, Saint Joseph’s (CT), So., Hebron, ME
Blue Jays’ sophomore pitcher, Emily Hummel split two starts in the GNAC tournament and finished the tourney with a 1.66 ERA. She threw a two-hit, one-walk shutout of #3 seeded Simmons in the Saturday elimination game to bring the Blue Jays to one game further in the tournament.
