GNAC Softball Report: Week 4
Lasell's Katie Hopkins and Norwich's Annika Beebe (pictured) both had standout weeks to share GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week accolades.

CO - PLAYER / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Katie Hopkins, Lasell (Fr., 3B - New Hyde Park, N.Y.) - Hopkins batted .667 (8 for 12) with a double, two home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored in a 2-2 week for the Lasers. She was 4-for-7 Tuesday with a double, five RBI and five runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Fisher, including four RBI in the opener, and she went 4-for-5 Saturday with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in a doubleheader loss at GNAC power Johnson & Wales. She was 3-for-3 in the second game with a pair of solo home runs, the first two of her career. |

CO - PLAYER / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Annika Beebe, Norwich (Fr., P/UT - Marianna, Fla.) - Beebe had one of the most impressive clutch performance weeks in Norwich softball history, recording three home runs, eight RBIs and picked up a win and a save in the pitcher's circle to help lead the Cadets to a 2-2 week. Beebe had an OPS of 1.572, recording at least one RBI and a hit in all four games on the week. Beebe hit the eventual game-winning home run in Sunday's Game 1 2-0 victory over Anna Maria in the second inning and then she walked off with the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 7th to give the Cadets a 4-3 win in the nightcap. Beebe came on for the top of the seventh in Game 1, inheriting runners on first and second and stranded them there to help the Cadets' cling to the 2-0 win and pick up her first collegiate save. In the first game on Monday vs. NEC, Beebe hit a game-tying solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Cadets ended up falling in the bottom half of the inning. |

PITCHER OF THE WEEK Laura Anderson, Albertus Magnus (Sr., P - East Haven, Conn.) - Anderson was lights out in the Falcons' sweep of Dean on Saturday, as the senior pitcher tossed all but one inning of both games while giving up zero earned runs on her way to two victories. In the opener, the East Haven, Conn., native went all 7.0 innings of a 7-1 Falcons' win, striking out three while allowing just four hits. She then pitched 6.0 innings of relief in game two, allowing zero runs with six strikeouts to lead Albertus to an 8-2 triumph. |
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Jess Stettinger, Albertus Magnus (Jr., C - East Haven, Conn.) - Stettinger led a lethal Albertus offense this past Saturday against Dean, as the team combined for 15 runs in a road sweep of the Bulldogs in GNAC action. The junior catcher went 3-for-7 at the plate, with four runs scored, one RBI, one home run, and two stolen bases. In the first game of the series, Stettinger went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot with two runs and two stolen bases, sparking the Falcons to a 7-1 win. She proceeded to hit her second homer of the season in the nightcap to help guide Albertus to an 8-2 victory.
Kiana Hinson, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, 2B/P - Whittier, Calif.) - Hinson hit safely in all four games on the week, lifting Emmanuel to a 4-0 record with a pair of non-conference sweeps over neighboring Simmons by batting .462 (6-for-13) while posting a .500 OBP and .615 slugging percentage. The junior added three RBI and three runs scored and closed out the weekend with back-to-back multi-hit outings over the Sharks.
Megan Long, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, P/OF - Greenville, R.I.) - Long enjoyed a dominant weekend, posting a 2-0 record in the circle with a pair of complete game wins in back-to-back days over Simmons. In Saturday's 8-3 victory, Long added to her league-high strikeout total with 10 K's. In Sunday's 7-2 win, she went the distance and allowed just one earned run while adding two strikeouts to post a 1.50 ERA on the week for EC.
Sage Borkowski, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., P - Oxford, Conn.) - Borkowski surrendered just one earned run and one walk in seven and two-thirds innings pitched on Saturday and Sunday. She earned the save in game one of a GNAC doubleheader against Lasell and secured the victory in game two to extend JWU's win streak to 12. On Sunday at Brown, Borkowski pitched three innings of relief, scattering three hits and striking out one.
Julia Huzi, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., IF - Trumbull, Conn.) - Huzi stole the show this week having three straight multi-hit games after a two week layoff. In the doubleheader sweep of Lasell, she hit her first career homerun and tied her season-high in RBI with four while crossing the plate four times. She totaled 10 bases in three games and was the only player with multiple hits in the Wildcats game against Division I Brown University. She also kept a clean sheet in the field with nine assists and four putouts at shortstop for JWU.
Brianna Gendreau, Lasell (Jr., INF/C - Warren, R.I.) - Gendreau batted .615 (8 for 13) with a double, two triples, nine RBI and eight runs scored in a 2-2 week for the Lasers (0-2 GNAC). She was 6-for-8 Tuesday with a pair of triples, seven RBI and seven runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Fisher College, including five RBI and a school-record five runs scored in the opener, and she went 2-for-5 Saturday with a double, two RBI and a run scored in a doubleheader loss at Johnson & Wales University.
