GNAC Softball Report: Week 2
JWU's Devin Scales and Livia Feole each took home GNAC weekly honors, as the Wildcats have gotten off to a remarkable 10-0 overall start to the 2021 campaign.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Angela Grindrod, Albertus Magnus (Fr., P - Stratford, Conn.) - Grindrod led the Falcons to their first victory of the 2021 season on Saturday, March 27, tossing 5.0 innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 triumph over St. Joseph (Conn.). The rookie lefty struck out one to pick up the win in her first career start.
Shay Savoie, Anna Maria (Jr., OF - Namao, Alberta) - Savoie was a key part of the AMCATS' 3-3 showing last week, posting a 1.056 OPS. Her best game came against Becker in a 12-9 win (3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI), and overall she went 8-for-23 with eight runs scored, two homers, two doubles, six RBI and five stolen bases.
Tianna Dawe, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, P/OF - Lynn, Mass.) - Dawe enjoyed a solid week at the plate and in the circle, batting .429 while also collecting a pitching win. The Lynn, Mass. native had a big afternoon in EC's 9-6 win over Fitchburg State going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, two runs scored, a stolen base and also earned a complete-game victory withe five strikeouts.
Megan Long, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, P/OF - Greenville, R.I.) - Long posted a 2-0 week in the circle for the Saints, notching wins over Suffolk and Fitchburg State with a pair of complete-game victories. The senior was dominant against the Rams, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters. She followed it up with another strong outing to earn a road win vs. FSU, scattering five hits while striking out nine in EC's 5-2 win. Over 14 innings of work, Long posted a 1.00 ERA with 20 strikeouts and held opponents to a .146 average.
Bethany Hector, Lasell (Sr., 3B/OF - Jaffrey, N.H.) - Hector batted .583 (7-12) with a double, a triple, three walks, three runs scored, four RBI, and two stolen bases in a 4-0 week for the Lasers (2-0 GNAC). She went 3-for-6 with a triple Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader sweep over Wentworth, and she went 4-for-6 with a double and four RBI Saturday in a GNAC sweep over Anna Maria. Hector has hit safely in all six Laser games this season after posting a 1.500 OPS last week.
Eryn Sheeley, Lasell (Fr., P/INF - North Haven, Conn.) - Sheeley posted a 2-0 record with a 2.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched in a 4-0 week for the Lasers (2-0 GNAC). She earned a win with a six-inning relief effort Tuesday against non-conference opponent Wentworth, allowing just one run on seven hits and no walks, striking out three, and posted her second win of the week Saturday with a complete-game effort over Anna Maria, surrendering six runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks, fanning 10.
Natalie Amato, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., P - Cheshire, Conn.) - Amato struck out 11 while yielding just two runs (one earned) on five hits with one walk in a complete-game effort en route to a 5-2 victory at Albertus.
Alessandra Milardo, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., P/OF - Plantsville, Conn.) - Milardo powered USJ at the plate and also tossed a gem inside the circle to help lead the Blue Jays to a 1-1 week and start to the 2021 season. In a season-opening doubleheader versus intrastate and GNAC rival Albertus Magnus, Milardo combined to go 2-for-7 at the dish with 3 RBI and a run scored. In game one, Milardo opened the season inside the circle for the Blue Jays and fired a gem, spinning six innings of work (CG), while allowing just two runs (0 ER) on three hits and zero walks. She struck out a career-high 10, but was dealt the tough-luck loss, 2-1. Milardo drove in the lone USJ run in game one before driving in two more in game two in what was an eventual 5-2 triumph for the Blue Jays to earn the split.
Megan Eagleston, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Senior, C - Reading, Mass.) - Eagleston led the Monks to a pair of wins over Bates College on Saturday, as the senior catcher hit .714 (5-7) with two runs and three RBI in the doubleheader sweep.
