GNAC Softball Report: Week 1
Longtime conference powerhouse JWU swept the softball weekly awards as the GNAC finally resumed its Player of the Week selection process on Monday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kaelani Gamble, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., IF/C - Vancouver, Wash.) - Gamble is leading the team and league in home runs (3) and RBI (9). She hit her first two home runs of the year in a five-RBI affair against Mitchell on Wednesday, followed up with a two-run shot on the second game of a doubleheader with Curry on Sunday. She is slugging .833 on the young season as the Wildcats have started 6-0. |

PITCHER OF THE WEEK Summer Ramundo, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., P/1B - Lincoln Park, N.J.) - Ramundo has pitched extremely well to open the year for the Wildcats going 4-0 in her first three starts. She has surrendered no more than three runs in each of her outings and has only given up one earned run while striking out 20 in 17 1/3 innings pitched. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (pictured) Sage Borkowski, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., P - Oxford, Conn.) - Borkowski recorded the first Johnson & Wales no-hitter since 2018 with a five inning shutout over Curry on Sunday. After an inning of relief in the opening game, Sage picked up her second win of 2021 giving up just two walks and striking out one batter. In her first win of the season on Wednesday, Borkowski surrendered three earned runs in another five-inning win for the Wildcats. For the week, she posted a 1.00 ERA in 7.0 innings. |
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Jadynne Hill, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, UTL - Haverhill, Mass.) - Hill opened the 2021 campaign hitting safely in both games of a doubleheader vs. MASCAC preseason favorite Framingham State, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a single and double for a .500 batting average. Hill added a pair of walks to help boast a .667 OBP while also scoring a run and posting a 1.000 fielding percentage in the non-conference twinbill.
Bethany Hector, Lasell (Sr., 3B/OF - Jaffrey, N.H.) - Hector batted .375 (3-for-8) with a home run and four RBI for a 1.194 OPS as Lasell opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of former GNAC opponent Suffolk. She went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and four total RBI in the opener, a 6-5 Laser victory, and went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Lasell?s 13-9 victory in the nightcap.
Dara Kelly, Norwich (Jr., OF - Chesterfield, N.J.) - Kelly had went 4-for-7 at the plate, batting .571 with a 1.428 OPS to lead the Norwich offense in a doubleheader vs. Mitchell (1-1). Kelly had a RBI triple to bring home Norwich's lone run in Game 1 and then she led the Cadets with three hits and two runs score in the nightcap in a 12-4 win. Kelly was a perfect 4-for-4 in the field as well.
