GNAC Women's Tennis Report: Week 7
Colby-Sawyer senior Yashu Yang cemented her fourth GNAC Player of the Week award after defeating JWU's Claire Parry in singles and doubles in a 7-2 setback against the top seeded Wildcats.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Yashu Yang, Colby-Sawyer (Jr - Kunming City, China) Yang won both of her matches to account for both points in a tough 7-2 loss to JWU on Saturday. Yang and Alexa Conlin earned an 8-1 victory at the top doubles spot to finish the regular season with perfect 7-0 record against GNAC opponents. Yang then won at the top singles flight 6-1, 6-0 to serve JWU's Claire Parry just her second loss of the season. Yang finishes the regular season with an undefeated GNAC record of 7-0. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK First-year Emily Hill guided Johnson & Wales to a 2-0 week, which included a 7-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer to seal the top seed in the 2019 GNAC championship tournament. Against the Chargers, Hill and doubles partner, Kourtney Moore, were once again dominant with an 8-2 win over Amira Eid and Juliet Henderson. Hill then went on to earn a two-set seconds singles win (6-2, 6-3) over Alexa Conlin. The following day against in-state rival Salve Regina, Hill and Moore earned an 8-0 doubles victory against the Seahawks. |
WEEK 7 HONOR ROLL
Sharon Biondi, Eastern Nazarene (Sr. - Barquisimeto, Venezuela) - Sharon Biondi posted an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles position and a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top singles spot as Eastern Nazarene capped off the regular season with an 8-1 victory at Suffolk.
Magdalena Hubel, Eastern Nazarene (Fr. - Berlin, Germany) - Magdalena Hubel posted an 8-5 victory at the No. 1 doubles position and a 6-1, 6-2 win in her first match of the year at the second singles spot as Eastern Nazarene capped off the regular season with an 8-1 victory at Suffolk.
Kourtney Moore, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So. - Roswell, Ga.) - Sophomore Kourtney Moore guided Johnson & Wales to a 2-0 week, which included a 7-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon to seal the top seed in the 2019 GNAC Championship Tournament. Against the Chargers, Moore picked up a two-set victory over Amira Eid (6-2, 6-3) after pairing with teammate Emily Hill to take second doubles, 8-2. The following day against in-state rival, Salve Regina she and earned an 8-0 doubles win along side Hill.
Ariana McCormack, Regis (Mass.) (Sr. - Worcester, Mass.) - McCormack led the Pride in their 9-0 victory over Albertus Magnus Saturday afternoon. At number one doubles, she joined with Carly Donovan for an 8-0 victory. McCormack then played at number one singles for the first time this season and earned a straight-set win, not losing a game in the second set (6-3, 6-0).
Marissa Johnson, Simmons University (Sr. - Norwell, Mass.) - The senior put together a 3-0 combined record in two matches. Johnson was a double-winner vs. University of Saint Joseph with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at second singles and earned an 8-0 victory at number one doubles on October 12. Johnson also picked up a doubles win at number one vs. Smith College on October 7 with an 8-3 showing.
