WOMEN'S TENNIS: Regis, USJ Hold Home Court With GNAC Tourney First-Round Victories
No. 3 Regis and No. 4 Saint Joseph (CT) both earned playoff wins on Wednesday to advance to Saturday's GNAC Semifinals.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The fourth-seeded University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team took care of business at home and defeated the fifth-seeded Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) Lions, 5-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament First Round match Wednesday afternoon at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex. With the victory, the Blue Jays improve to 6-6 overall on the season and advance to the GNAC Semifinals for the first time since 2016. They will travel and play first-seeded Colby-Sawyer College in the semifinals on Saturday in New London, N.H. at 1:00 p.m.

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College, the third seed in the 2021 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, defeated sixth seed Albertus Magnus College, 5-0, Wednesday evening in a first round tournament match at the Regis Tennis Courts.
The Pride swept through the doubles sets, winning all three of them with the same 8-0 score. The team of Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) and Samantha Gevry (Dudley, Mass.) completed their contest first, followed by the duo of Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and the combination of Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Lauren Mogelnicki(Wethersfield, Conn.).
FitzPatrick quickly picked up Regis' fourth point of the contest with a straight-set victory at number six singles without losing a single game (6-0, 6-0). Colby clinched the match for the Pride at number five singles by defeating her opponent in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). Beatrice and Gevry had won the first set and were ahead in the second set of their respective matches, while both Mogelnicki sisters held first set leads when play was stopped once the contest reached decision.
Albertus Magnus (1-7) has road matches scheduled at Vaughn and at York to conclude its fall schedule.
Regis College (6-4) heads to Daly Field in Brighton, Mass., to face second seed Simmons University in the GNAC Tournament semifinals Saturday, Oct. 16, starting at 12 p.m. The Sharks pulled out a 5-4 victory over the Pride during the regular season meeting Sept. 25 thanks to a three-set victory in the final singles match to be completed.
