GNAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 5
Lasell's Jesus Garcia and Jordan Shinaut grabbed weekly honors after a 4-0 GNAC week, which included an upset over No. 5 Wentworth.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Jesus Garcia, Lasell (Junior, Setter - Honolulu, Hawaii) - Garcia averaged 8.29 assists and 1.71 digs per set in a perfect 4-0 GNAC week of competition for the Lasers, including an impressive 3-1 victory over No. 5 nationally-ranked Wentworth. In the four-set win, he totaled five kills on a .714 percentage to go with 34 assists, eight digs and two service aces. He also registered 21, 32 and 29 assists, respectively, in wins over Emerson, Regis and Elms.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Marcello Cappuccio, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., DS - Scotch Plains, N.J.) - As the team's libero, Cappuccio paced the Pride defense during the team's 2-1 week, averaging 3.55 digs per set. After collecting nine digs Thursday night at Lasell, Cappuccio notched a career-high 15 digs in Regis' 3-1 victory over Emerson Saturday, the Pride's first GNAC win of the season. Later Saturday, he tied that career high with 15 digs against King's College, helping the Pride hold the Monarchs, which entered the match with an 11-2 record, to a negative hitting percentage. In addition, he did not make a reception error while finishing with a team-high 76 serve receptions during the week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Jordan Shinaut, Lasell (Freshman, Opposite - Peoria, Ariz.) - The first-year averaged a stellar 3,64 kills per set on a .493 percentage in the Lasers' 4-0 GNAC week, in which the rookie played in 11 sets over three matches. Shinaut also chipped in 027 aces and 0.55 blocks per set.

HONOR ROLL
Antonio Delgado Rolon, Elms (Senior) - In a 2-2 week, the senior averaged 2.23 kills and 2.00 digs per set while hitting .297. He had eight kills in each game against GNAC foes Wentworth and Lasell.
Tyler Behsman, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, LB - Derry, N.H.) - Behsman tallied 33 digs on the week leading the Saints to three victories, averaging 3.00 digs per set over 11 sets played. The senior captain led the defensive unit over the weekend against NVU-Johnson, collecting a total of 24 digs over a pair of 3-0 wins for the Saints including a 14-dig outing to cap the week.
Matt Ferrara, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Sandown, N.H.) - Ferrara paced the Pride during the team's 2-1 week, averaging 2.82 kills and 1.27 digs per set. He led the Pride with a season-high 13 kills against Lasell Thursday night, posting a .233 hitting percentage. Saturday against Emerson, he tied for the team lead with 10 kills to go along with eight digs and three total blocks in the Pride's first GNAC victory of the season. He followed that up with eight kills, two service aces, three digs, and three block assists in Regis' sweep over King's College, a team that brought an 11-2 record into the match. For the season, Ferrara continues to lead the team with 94 total kills and 2.41 kills per set.
Joseph Perez, Regis (Mass.) (So., OH - Miami, Fla.) - Perez continues to play a major role in the Pride offensive attack during his first collegiate competition season. He earned nine kills, one service ace, and one block assist in each of the three matches over the past week, averaging 2.45 kills per set. Against Lasell Thursday night, he also tied for the team lead with a season-high nine defensive digs. He finished with seven digs Saturday against Emerson, and then he hit .500 in the Pride's sweep over King's College, 11-2 entering the match. For the season, Perez is second on the team with 77 kills and 56 digs, plus he is tied for second on the squad with 11 service aces.
