Johnson & Wales senior Robert Newcomb (Quincy, Mass.) was named a 2009 Golf Coaches Association of America/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar, announced by the GCAA at the annual Division III National Awards dinner recently at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center.
The Johnson & Wales golf team finished the 2009 season with a 36th place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship at the Dye Course of the PGA Golf Village last week. The course was a par 72 and measured 7,123 yards.
In the fall of 2009, as the academic year tees off, the first-ever Emmanuel College golf team will tee off as well. With the addition of the mens golf team, Emmanuel College will increase its number of varsity programs from 14 to 15. The growing athletic department will benefit the Emmanuel College community, and it will attract a wider variety of prospective student-athletes to the school.
Johnson & Wales senior Bobby Newcomb earned medalist honors and was named the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year after shooting a two-round total of 150 (74-76) to lead Johnson & Wales to a first-place finish at the 2008 GNAC Championship.
Cranston, R.I. The Johnson & Wales University golf team is currently in first place after the first round of the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, hosted at the Cranston Country Club. The Wildcats have a 13 shot lead after carding a 307 over the par 71 course. Rhode Island College is in second place with a 320 while UMass Dartmouth finished with a 321 on the day.
The 2008 GNAC Men's Golf Championship will take place on Friday, October 24th and Saturday, October 25th at the Cranston Country Club, Cranston, RI.
