Tournament Format
Single-elimination bracket tournament with no reseeding. The play-in round will be within division with #5N at #4N and #5S at #4S. The bracket shall cross over between divisions with #1N v. #4S/#5S, #2N v. #3S, #2S v. #3N, and #1S v. #4N/#5N in the quarterfinal round.
Seeding and Tiebreaking Criteria
Teams are seeded within their respective divisions based on the regular season standings. Ties for seeding will be broken by the following sequential criteria:
-
Divisional head-to-head results*
-
Results vs. highest-ranked division teams
-
In-division goal differential capped at 6 between tied teams
-
In-division lowest goals against between tied teams
-
Results vs. common opponents in conference games (i.e. cross-division conference games)
-
Results vs. common non-conference opponents
-
Coin toss
- Note: If more than two teams are tied, head-to-head will refer to the team’s combined conference record against all other teams involved in the tiebreaker.
- Note: Designation of “division” and “conference” games refer to games that are scheduled by the conference office. Should GNAC teams schedule additional competition against other GNAC teams, those games are considered non-conference games.
If more than two teams are tied, seeding will be determined by separating the highest-ranked team first (Adopted Aug. 2016). The tiebreaking criteria will then be applied to the remaining teams from the beginning. This process continues until all seeds are finalized.
Tiebreaking Criteria for Determination of Championship Final Host
The highest remaining seed shall host the conference final. If the championship features teams that have the same seed (e.g. #1N vs. #1S), ties will be broken by the following sequential criteria:
-
Head-to-head result in conference games
-
Record vs. common conference opponents
-
Number of division wins
-
Regular season conference goal differential capped at 6
-
Results vs. common non-conference opponents
-
Coin Toss
