Lasell Claims Top Seed in 2024 WVB Tournament; Seedings Announced
WINTHROP, Mass. – Defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champion Lasell University looks to repeat in the 2024 GNAC Women's Volleyball Postseason Tournament as the Lasers finished their regular season undefeated in conference play at 15-0 (27-5 overall).
Looking to reclaim their spot on top is No. 2 seed Johnson & Wales as they finished 13-2 in conference play (19-11 overall). The Wildcats will look to reclaim the GNAC trophy for the first time since 2022.
Tying JWU in conference play at 13-2 (22-8 overall) is last year's runner-up Regis. The Pride earn the third seed despite tying Johnson & Wales due to their head-to-head matchup in which Regis fell short.
At the No. 4 spot, Simmons finished 12-3 (14-13 overall) in GNAC Play while Emmanuel (11-4 in GNAC; 21-7 overall) takes the fifth seed in this year's tournament. Saint Joseph's (Maine) will claim the sixth seed (10-5 in GNAC play; 14-16 overall) in this year's tournament, rounding out the top six in this year's tournament.
Fighting for the quarterfinal spots in the play-in round are seven seed Rivier (9-6 GNAC; 15-15 overall), eight seed Colby-Sawyer (8-7 GNAC; 20-11 overall), No. 9 Dean (6-9 GNAC; 11-16 overall), and clinching the final spot was New England College (6-9 GNAC; 10-19 overall). Dean had a head-to-head edge over New England College, earning the tie-breaking advantage for the nine seed. Both play-in games will play on Monday, Nov. 11.
The GNAC Quarterfinals start the following day on Tuesday (Nov. 12) with the eight teams going head-to-head. The winners will advance to play in the GNAC Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 14 with the prevailing teams competing for the GNAC Championship on Saturday, Nov. 16. The winner of the GNAC Championship match will be named the 2024 GNAC Women's Volleyball Champion and earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
