FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Having been ranked sixth and fifth and previous rankings, Johnson & Wales University checked in at No. 4 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Top-25 Poll. The Wildcats, who are 9-1 overall and 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, received 1491 points in the Week 3 poll, behind only Calvin, Colorado Coll. and Wittenberg.
After its 2017 NCAA Elite Eight run after winning the Providence Regional last fall, JWU began the season by defeating defending national champion and then-No. 1 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The program's lone blemish was its season opener against Cal Lutheran, but the Wildcats have reeled off nine straight since, including a 4-0 showing last week which included victories over a pair of 2017 NCAA Tournament teams in Endicott and Babson.
JWU will be in action on Tuesday evening at MIT before welcoming Scranton, Tufts and Bowdoin to the Wildcat Center in Providence this weekend for the JWU Invitational.
The Wildcats saw Maria Coniglio named GNAC Player of the Week on Monday, while Elyssa Nicolas received Libero of the Week honors from the league office. Earlier in the season, Brylee Frank gcaptured AVCA Division III National Player of the Week honors.
