BOSTON, Mass. – Led by the Simmons College women's volleyball team, the Simmons Athletics Department raised over $1,100 in conjunction with the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer initiative.
Head coach Dani Soubliere and the Sharks' volleyball squad was the catalyst for Simmons Athletics effort to help support the American Cancer Society's cause.
The team hosted a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on October 18 and through sales of commemorative t-shirts and donations through their team website, the Sharks helped to raise nearly $1,100 by themselves. Simmons volleyball also showed their support by wearing pink shirt during their pre-game warmups and assembled a "Wall of Hope" as a show of support to all those affected by cancer.
The volleyball team wasn't the only squad on campus to show their support. The tennis team used special pink tennis balls during their warm-up prior to its match vs. Colby College on October 13 to show support for the cause. The cross country team donned pink shoes laces during its meet at the Seven Sisters Championship on October 18, while the soccer team wore pink wrist bands, hair ribbons and even dyed their hair pink for its match vs. Suffolk University on October 19 to show their support. The team also welcomed donations to the cause.
Fans can still show their support to the cause through monetary donations to benefit the life-saving work of the American Cancer Society and its Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. Donations are still being collected online, by clicking here.
