INDIANAPOLIS – Emmanuel women's lacrosse is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 and opens the national tournament with the Endicott College Gulls, hosted at Colby College, on Saturday, May 10, at 1:00 p.m. in the First Round of the tournament, as announced by the NCAA Office on Monday morning.
The Saints and Gulls punched their tickets to the NCAA Tournament thanks to wins in their respective conference championship games, clinching the automatic bid to the tournament in the process. The Saints claimed a 15-12 victory over Johnson & Wales in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Title Game, while the Gulls came away with a 25-19 win over Hartford in the Conference of New England (CNE) Final.
With 47 teams making the tournament, 14 First Round games will be played at different host sites. Hosting the pod is the No. 4 Colby College Mules, who earned their spot in the tournament with an at-large bid, as they fell in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Game to Tufts.
Endicott went 15-4 this season on the way to its second consecutive CNE Championship. The Gulls went a perfect 9-0 in conference play, earning the No. 1 seed in the CNE Tournament. Wins over Nichols and Hartford earned them the CNE Title. The Gulls have won five straight entering the tournament and have scored at least 21 goals in all five of those games.
Colby finished their season at 14-3, with the three defeats coming against Middlebury and twice to Tufts. Before their loss in the NESCAC Championship Game, the Mules had won six straight, holding opponents to less than eight goals in all six wins.
Emmanuel runs into the NCAA Tournament with wins in seven straight and 11 of the last 12. After falling to Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Championship game last season, the Saints are back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over a decade after their three-goal win.
All First and Second Round games will be streamed live on NCAA.com. The winner of Saturday's game will play Colby on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for a spot in the final 16 teams.
