GNAC Women's Lacrosse Report: Week 3
Dean's Maire Brown registered 14 goals and three assists for 17 points with eight round balls and 18 draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Maire Brown, Dean (Sr, F - Huntington, N.Y.) - Brown led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week against GNAC opponents. The senior began things with seven points on four goals – plus two important ones in the fourth quarter – and three assists in a 20-13 victory over Elms. She added a game-best 10 draw controls. Brown then posted a game-high 10 goals in an 18-14 road win at Rivier to improve Dean's GNAC record to 3-0. She also had another eight draw controls in that victory.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK Katie Castle, Simmons (Senior, G - North Waterboro, Maine) - Castle guided Simmons to a 2-0 week, which included a thrilling 15-12 victory over the west coast's Occidental. Against Occidental, Castle entered the game with 23 minutes remaining the contest and kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for the last 14 minutes of the contest, registering five saves and a .625 save percentage to pick up her first win of the season. Castle picked up her second win of the season, playing the entire 60 minutes in a convincing 16-1 win over Lasell, where she notched eight saves for an .889 save percentage.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ella Marschitz, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, M - Naperville, Ill.) - Marschitz enjoyed another strong week for Emmanuel by recording seven points on six goals and one assist to go along with 11 draw control wins, three ground balls and two caused turnovers across a pair of EC victories. The rookie won eight draws in the home-opening win vs. Salem State, adding two points on a goal and an assist before scoring five goals in GNAC action versus Elms, helping the Saints tie the single-game scoring record in the 25-6 victory.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Sophia Kuhlthau, Colby-Sawyer (So, M - Cheshire, Conn.) - Kuhlthau scored 11 goals with an assist for 12 points in a 1-2 week for the Chargers. She also registered seven ground balls, 17 draw controls and four caused turnoves on the week, which was highlighted by a six-goal effort in an 18-5 GNAC victory over Albertus Magnus.
Megan Steele, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, A/M - Auburn, Maine) - Steele powered the Saints high-flying offense with 10 points in a 2-0 week that included six goals and four assists. The senior was hard to stop in Emmanuel's GNAC win over Elms, scoring five goals on six shots for a gaudy 83.3 shooting percentage, adding one assist, one groundball and one caused turnover on the day. She opened the week with four points in EC's home-opener vs. Salem State on a goal and three assists, also recording one groundball.
Taina Gamory, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., M - Warwick, N.Y.) - Gamory found the back of the net nine times and also won five draw controls for JWU last week. She scored four goals in a non-conference contest at Coast Guard on Wednesday, then picked up six points on five goals and an assist at Norwich on Saturday. Gamory sits seventh in the GNAC with 20 points thus far in 2023.
Morgan Pero, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., M - Hartford, Vt.) - Pero helped Regis win two GNAC matches over the past week. Thursday against Albertus Magnus, she contributed two goals, one assist, and two groundballs in the Pride's 15-8 victory. Saturday, she led the Pride with a season-high five goals in the team's victory at USJ, plus she earned six groundballs, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers. Three of her goals came in the fourth quarter, including a free position goal with 4:25 remaining in regulation to tie the match at 8-8, followed by the ensuing draw control that led to Regis' go-ahead goal. She also won the draw control after USJ closed to within one at 10-9 and scored with 45 seconds left to close out the victory.
Sarah Lachance, Rivier (So., M - Chelmsford, Mass.) - Lachance ran the Raiders offense this week, helping them to a 1-1 record. Her role in the team's first GNAC win of the season over Norwich was substantial, as she scored eight of the team's ten goals. Lachance would follow up that performance with another five goals and three assists against Dean College. Overall, she had 13 goals and three assists for 16 points in just two games.
Makenzie Dinger, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., A/M - Hingham, Mass.) - Dinger continued her torrid start to the 2023 season for USJ and helped power the Blue Jays to a 2-1 record this past week after registering 22 points from 17 goals and five assists. She also racked up 27 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 15 draw controls over a three-game homestand. The veteran midfielder hailing from Hingham, Mass. opened the week with six goals and an assist to go along with nine ground balls, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers in a 17-1 rout of RIC on Wednesday. Dinger followed that up with a career-best outing, tallying a career-high 14 points in a 17-4 triumph over Purchase College on Thursday. For the second time this season, she potted 10 goals in a single game in the win over Purchase and added four assists to factor in on 14 of USJ's 17 goals on the day. She also contributed nine ground balls, nine caused turnovers and six draw controls. Dinger rounded out the week with a goal plus nine more ground balls, five caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls in a tight 11-9 setback to Regis on Saturday. Dinger currently leads the GNAC in goals with 34 through six games so far this season.
Lydia Dexter, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (GR, A - Oakland, Maine) - Dexter tallied seven goals and six assists for 13 total points with six draw controls and three ground balls in a 1-1 week for the Monks. The graduate attack led Saint Joseph's to a 19-4 win at Anna Maria College with three goals, four assists, and six draw controls on Saturday.
Marita Nothacker, Simmons (Junior, M - Philadelphia, Pa.) - Nothacker guided Simmons to a 2-0 week, which included a thrilling 15-12 victory over west coast institution Occidental on Wednesday evening. Against Occidental, Nothacker surpassed her single-game best, registering 11 draw controls against the Tigers in addition to tallying four goals for four points and tallying a pair of caused turnovers and a ground ball. She closed out the week tallying another two goals with a pair of ground balls and draw controls in a convincing 16-1 victory over GNAC foe Lasell. Overall on the two-game week, she notched six goals for six points, including a perfect three-for-three on free position attempts, while also recording 13 draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Abby Stoller, Simmons (Grad Senior, M - Wayland, Mass.) - Stoller guided Simmons to a 2-0 week, which included a thrilling 15-12 victory over west coast institution Occidental College on Wednesday evening. Against Occidental, she registered a pair of goals to go along with two draw controls, a ground ball and caused turnover. Stoller closed out the week, tallying a five goals and an assist for six points, in addition to recording six draw controls in a convincing 16-1 win over GNAC foe Lasell University on Saturday afternoon.
