GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 12
Emmanuel's Yannie Chan averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Saints, including a major 73-69 victory over GNAC rival Saint Joseph's of Maine.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Yannie Chan, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Hong Kong, China) - Chan averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Saints, which included a crucial 73-69 victory over GNAC rival Saint Joseph's of Maine. In the win, she poured in 26 points to go with five boards, seven helpers and three assists. She also double-doubled with 14 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists in a 72-55 win over USJ, and shot 50.0% (15- 30 FG, 7-11 3PT, 3-4 FT) from the floor for the week. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Madi Zancan, Regis (Mass.) (Fy., F - Cumberland, R.I.) - Zancan helped Regis to a key victory over the weekend. After pulling down a season-high 12 rebounds on Wednesday against Lasell, she led the Pride with 20 points and nine boards in Saturday's victory over regionally-ranked Albertus Magnus. She scored nine points in the second quarter to help Regis open a 20-point halftime lead, and then she collected seven points in the fourth quarter to hold off a Falcon rally. For the week, she averaged a double-double of 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 41.2% (7-17) overall and going 10-of-12 from the FT line. |
GNAC HONOR ROLL
Juju Nealy, Lasell (Sophomore, G) - Nealy averaged 17.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Lasers, including 19 points in an impressive 57-46 road win over Regis.
Haley Brewster, Norwich (So, G - Virginia Beach, Va.) - Brewster was unstoppable in her lone outing this past week, pouring in a season-high 31 points in a dominant, must-win conference victory at Lasell. The sophomore shot 52.6% (10-19) from the floor while going a near-perfect 9-11 from the charity stripe, hauling down eight boards and snagging three steals in the process.
Maren McGinn, Norwich (So, F - Georgia, Vt.) - McGinn logged a double-double in Norwich's crucial GNAC win at Lasell, posting 14 points and 11 boards on 50.0% shooting. McGinn also snagged three steals, dished an assist, and a block.
Pam Gonzalez, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., G - Revere, Mass.) - Gonzalez continues to lead the Pride as the end of the regular season approaches, averaging 21.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 47.2% (17-36 FG, 4-11 3PT, 5-6 FT) in a 1-1 week. On Wednesday night against Lasell, she notched her ninth double-double of the season with 26 points and 14 rebounds. On Saturday against regionally ranked Albertus Magnus, she played all 40 minutes and earned her 10th double-double of the year with 17 points and 14 rebounds, coming close to a triple-double with eight assists. Gonzalez also picked up two steals and two blocks as the Pride defeated the Falcons for the first time in the last seven meetings.
Jordan Ouellette, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., G/F - Bristol, Conn.) - Oullette nearly averaged a double-double in a 1-1 week for USJ, averaging 13.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Opened the week with 18 points and 8 rebounds in the road loss at Emmanuel, before tallying 9 points and 10 rebounds in the blowout victory over Dean.
Nina Howe, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, PG - York, Maine) - Howe enjoyed one of the finest three-game stretches of her NCAA career last week, as the junior point guard averaged 17.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals to help the Monks go 2-1. Howe shot 47.2% (17-36) from the floor, 64.7% (11-17) from downtown, and 87.5% (7-8) from the FT line during the week and netted a career-high 19 points versus Anna Maria on Wednesday and again at Emmanuel on Saturday.
