Curry Nets 1,000th Point in Norwich's 62-41 winagainst Anna Maria
PAXTON, Mass.—Norwich University women's basketball sophomore Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) totaled 22 points and netted her 1,000th career point in the Cadets' 62-41 win against Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
PAXTON, Mass.—Norwich University women's basketball sophomore Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) totaled 22 points and netted her 1,000th career point in the Cadets' 62-41 win against Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
With the win, the Cadets snapped a five-game slide and improve to 9-14 overall and 3-7 in GNAC action, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 4-16 overall and 0-7 in league play.
Curry, who entered today's game with 984 points, notched her milestone basket with 6:14 left to play in the second half. She becomes the 75th women's player in GNAC history to reach 1,000 points and becomes the first player to reach the achievement in her first two seasons of play.
She scored her game-high 22 points on 7-18 shooting from the floor, including 4-11 from three –point range, and 4-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Norwich also saw a double-figure performance by sophomore Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.), who totaled 10 points on 4-10 shooting from field goal range, including 2-6 from behind the three-point arc. Lotti and freshman Sheridan Steiner (Lafayette, Ind.) both posted a team-high six rebounds.
Anna Maria was led by Kaitlyn Patno with 12 points and Katie Pryor with 11. Taylor Walker led the AMCATS on the boards with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Cadets opened the game with a 10-0 run and did not trail for the remainder of the game. The AMCATS were able to cut the Norwich lead to two with just over eight minutes to play in the half, but the Cadets broke the gap back open and led by nine at halftime.
Norwich continued its run in the second half and led by double-figures for most of the period. The Cadets biggest least lead came on the final basket of the game, as Donovan Driscoll's (Chelmsford, Mass.) jumper gave Norwich the 21 point win.
The Cadets shot 42.6 percent from the floor over the two halves, while holding the AMCATS to 25 percent shooting.
Norwich is idle until next Saturday, Feb. 9, when it hosts Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at 3:00 p.m. in GNAC action.
