West Hartford, CT - The University of Saint Joseph hosted the New Britain and Farmington/Avon Unified teams, which played at halftime of Saturday's women's basketball game between USJ and St. Joseph's College, of Maine.
The event was made possible with the help of grants from Special Olympics and the Conn. Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC). The University of Saint Joseph's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) provided organizational support. All participants received shirts, basketballs and attended a post-game reception with USJ players.
"Hosting the New Britain and Farmington Unified Sports Teams as part of our Special Olympics College Campus Event was a tremendous opportunity for both our student-athletes and these two teams," University of Saint Joseph basketball coach Kim Martin said. "We had a great turnout for the event and were able to get a number of pledges for the campaign. Many thanks to our SAAC president, Terese Cerins, who was instrumental in coordinating this event along with the Special Olympics r-word campaign."
