SOFT: Albertus Magnus To Face #12 Nationally-Ranked WPI in Regionals
INDIANAPOLIS – 2026 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Champion Albertus Magnus will represent the GNAC in the 2026 NCAA Division III Softball Championship as it heads to #12 nationally-ranked Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for the opening day of regional action. The game is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at 11:00 am.
The Falcons were one of 64 teams selected into this year’s championship field, which was announced on Monday (May 11) afternoon during the NCAA.com Selection Show. The tournament begins May 14 with the regional round and concludes June 3 at Moyer Sports Park in Salem, Virginia. In 2026, the tournament will feature 64 teams competing across 16 regional brackets, each consisting of four teams in a double-elimination format.
Albertus Magnus compiled a 27-18 overall mark, including a 14-4 GNAC record (9-3 in South Division) that gave him the No. 1 south seed in the GNAC Championship Tournament. In Pod Play, the Falcons defeated #4S seed Lasell, lost to #3N Rivier but redeemed themselves in back to back wins over #2N Saint Joseph's (Maine) and Rivier before winning the best of three series over #1N Simmons to claim the GNAC crown.
There are 15 additional regional sites besides WPI hosting action on Thursday-Saturday, May 14-16. Four teams are competing in each of the sites and will use a double-elimination format.
The sixteen regional winners will advance to the eight Super Regional sites on Thursday-Friday, May 21-22 to play best-of-three series. The eight Super Regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Moyer Sports Park in Salem, Virginia from Thursday, May 28 to Wednesday, June 3.
