GNAC Softball Athlete of the Week Report #6
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abigail Fortin, Lasell (Sr.)
Senior Abigail Fortin delivered an outstanding all-around week, highlighted by recording her 100th career hit in a matchup against Gordon. The junior hit .636 (7-for-11) across three games, scoring four runs while adding an RBI and three stolen bases, including a pair of multi-hit performances in a conference sweep of Dean. Fortin also shined in the circle and the field, tossing a complete-game victory with three strikeouts while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage over 14 chances.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Piper Kinney, Simmons (Sr.)
Senior Piper Kinney became the all-time Simmons strikeout leader (579) after coming in, in relief against NEC Saturday night. On the week, Kinney went 2-0 from the circle with two complete game wins, letting up just one walk and striking out 12 with an ERA of 0.91 in 15.1 innings pitched. Kinney also reached base in all four games this week, and had a big game at the plate in a 3-5 outing against NEC with three RBIs.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Gracie Browne, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Fr.)
Freshman Gracie Browne paced the offense at the plate during a perfect 4-0 week, slashing .700/.750/1.000 with seven hits, one double, one triple, four RBI, four runs scored and two walks.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Karla Carangelo, Albertus Magnus - Carangelo went 7-for-9 at the plate on a .778 average with six RBI's on the week. She also fanned four in three innings against Elms on the mound.
Mikayla Schwippert, Albertus Magnus - Schwippert went 5-10 at the plate with all four RBI coming from a 3-for-3 performance in game 1 of a doubleheader sweep over Elms.
Mallory Blackwell, Colby-Sawyer - Blackwell powered the Chargers to their first win in program history over Dean. Mallory would pitch a complete game only allowing three hits and 0 earned runs. She would record four strikeouts in the Chargers 4-1 win.
Emma Lopez, New England College - Lopez recorded six hits after 10 at-bats this week. With those six she had three doubles allowing her to lead the GNAC with season doubles with a total of 10. Lopez had a batting average of .600 with an on base percentage of .636 bringing her season percentage to .469. Lastly, she had a .900 slugging percentage bring her to sixth in the conference for an average of .643. The senior had a season high of two doubles and three RBI's against Simmons on Saturday night.
Madison DeCota, Norwich - DeCota continues a dominant junior campaign at the plate slashing .636/.667/1.000 with 5 RBI, 4 runs scored, 3 XBHs and 11 total bases placing her tied for 1st in the GNAC in batting average.
Kate Julian, Regis - Julian put together a strong week in the circle, going 2-1 while tossing 12.1 innings. She posted a 3.41 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, striking out 10 batters. Julian highlighted her week with a dominant complete-game shutout against Mitchell, allowing just one hit over seven innings with five strikeouts.
Chantelle Bouchard, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Bouchard turned in a strong all-around week at the plate for the Monks, batting .438 (7-for-16) with two doubles, two triples, five RBI, and six runs scored across four games. She collected multiple hits in two contests, including a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored in a win over Thomas, and followed with a two-hit effort that featured two triples and three RBI in a conference victory at Norwich. Bouchard’s extra-base power and run production helped fuel Saint Joseph’s offense to a 3-1 week.
Jayden Sullivan, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Sullivan enjoyed a breakout week at the plate, batting .545 (6-for-11) with a double, a home run, six RBI, and a run scored across three games. The rookie opened the week with a 3-for-4 effort that included a home run and three RBI against Thomas and later delivered another three-hit performance with a double and three RBI in a conference victory over Norwich.
Emery Kreidel-Reimer, Simmons - After a challenging game 1 at the plate for Kreidel-Reimer, the senior came back in game two with a 3-3, two runs scored performance in a 7-5 W over Suffolk. From there, she went 2-3 with two runs scored, a double, and triple with an RBI against NEC (7-4) and got on base twice in the fourth win of the week for the sharks 13-6 over NEC.
