GNAC Softball Athlete of the Week Report #4
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Karla Carangelo, Albertus Magnus (So.)
Sophomore Karla Carangelo delivered a dominant all-around performance, leading her team both at the plate and in the circle. She hit .462 with two home runs (both coming in the first game of their doubleheader against John Jay) and eight RBI's while also going 2-0 on the mound with a 0.00 ERA, allowing no earned runs across her two pitching appearances. Carangelo’s impact in all phases was instrumental in a perfect 4-0 week for the Falcons.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Piper Kinney, Simmons (Sr.)
Senior Piper Kinney went 1-1 in the circle in 14.1 innings of work with 22 strikeouts (10.74 per 7) and a 0.49 earned run average. Kinney had one earned run in 9.1 innings of work in an extra inning loss to Albertus Magnus on Saturday (Mar. 21) on 12 strikeouts and no walks. The senior then followed the next day with a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Thomas with 12 k's in five innings of work.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Carmen Crockett, Emmanuel (Fr.)
Freshman Carmen Crockett had 21 strikeouts in two appearances in the circle for the Saints, which was highlighted by a 13-strikeout no-hitter on Saturday (Mar. 21) in a win over Elms.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Mikaela Schwippert, Albertus Magnus - Schwippert batted .600 (9-for-15) on five hits in the 4-0 week, collecting multiple hits in all four contests for the Falcons.
Mia Fernandes, Emmanuel - Fernandes plated .500 with two RBI's in a 2-1 week for the Saints, going 6-for-12 on the week.
Abigail Fortin, Lasell - Fortin reached the 200 career strikeouts milestone in her lone appearance against New England College on the mound. At-bat, Fortin went 6-for-10.
Olivia DeCicco, Mitchell - DeCicco turned in another strong week in the circle, going 2–1 with a 2.33 ERA across three starts, logging 18.0 innings with 15 strikeouts. She tossed two complete games, including a standout effort in a 1–0 loss to Norwich, allowing just one run (zero earned) over seven innings. DeCicco also earned wins over Bay Path and Mount Saint Vincent, striking out seven batters in each outing.
Kaylee Drago, Mitchell - Drago led Mitchell offensively during a six-game stretch, batting .438 (7-for-16) with four runs scored, three doubles, one home run, and six RBI, while posting a .526 on-base percentage and an impressive .813 slugging percentage. She delivered multiple impactful performances, including a 2-for-3 effort with two doubles and an RBI in a 5–1 GNAC win over Norwich, and a 2-for-2 outing with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored in a 13–1 victory over Mount Saint Vincent. Drago also added a double and an RBI in a win over Bay Path, and collected four extra base hits on the week.
Emma Lopez, New England College - Lopez had a .400 batting average in two games to go along with a 0.500 on-base percentage. She came through in the clutch with the go-ahead RBI double in the fifth and another RBI double in the seventh of NEC's 4-2 win over Lasell on Saturday.
Zoe Soule, Simmons - Soule had a huge week at the plate for the Sharks as she had a double and two singles against Albertus on Saturday with an RBI then booked a season-high in hits (three) and RBI's (four) in an 11-0 route of Thomas on Sunday. Soule was also perfect defensively in center field, committing no errors.
Sydney Robison, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Robison slashed .714/.778/1.143 across three games for USJ, recording five hits, two runs, one homerun, four RBI and two walks and was also perfect in the field at first base, recording 11 putouts while not committing a single error. Robison started the week with a perfect 2-for-2 outing in game one against UMSV, notching four RBI and one homerun and followed up her game one performance with a 2-for-3 dat at the plate in game two against the Dolphins, while drawing one walk. She rounded out her impressive weekend with a 1-for-2 day at the plate in game one against Saint Joseph's College, scoring one run while drawing a walk.
Analise Escarraman, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Escarraman was impressive for the Blue Jays inside the circle this past weekend, posting a perfect 2-0 record with a 2.71 ERA, a 1.84 WHIP and 12 total strikeouts. She started the week by earning the win during a 10-5 victory against UMSV, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out a season‑high eight in 5.2 innings and followed up her outing by getting the win in a 7-1 decision over SJC, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three over 4.2 innings.
