MCMINVILLE, Ore. – Seniors Mackenzie Clee and Hailey Martins each drove in a run for the JWU (Providence) softball team in a 12-2 loss to Linfield University Thursday afternoon in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at Del Smith Stadium.
The 'other' Wildcats (39-5) hit three home runs – including a grand slam – and led 12-0 after two innings of play. JWU pushed across two in the fifth on an RBI single from Martins that scored junior Jadyn Torres and a sac fly off the bat of Clee that brought in senior Danielle Floyd.
Sophomores Macy Pagano and Jessica Forneiro each collected a hit for the Wildcats (29-16), who will meet the loser of the Lewis & Clark / Chapman contest Friday morning.
Senior Katie Scheid surrendered nine hits and six runs while walking five in 1.1 innings of work before being lifted in favor of junior Jillian Reed, who gave up three hits and three runs over the final 2.2 innings. Reed struck out a pair.
