Shufelt Becomes Second Member of Monks 200-Hit Club

STANDISH, Maine - Senior center fielder Danyelle Shufelt (Sutton, Vt.) became the second player in Saint Joseph's College softball history to reach the 200-hit plateau when she rapped a single in a 9-1 triumph over Anna Maria College at Richard W. Bailey Field on Saturday afternoon.

Shufelt registered the historic hit when she led off the bottom of the first inning with a single up the middle off AMCATS' starting pitcher Nichole Lowe. She is just the second player in program history to reach the landmark total and joins former teammate Emily Leverone '12, who recorded 258 career hits over four collegiate seasons, in the exclusive club.

A two-time All-Conference and GNAC All-Academic honoree has started all 157 of the Monks' games during her career and has recorded 59 multiple-hit performances with four hitting streaks of 12 games or longer, including a 16-gamer as a freshman, while playing for Saint Joseph's.

Shufelt notched her first collegiate hit with a run-scoring single in the third inning of a 12-4 victory over Ohio-Wesleyan on March 7th, 2010 in Fort Myers, Florida. She tallied her 100th career hit in a loss to University of Maine on April 27th, 2011.

This season, Shufelt is hitting .472 (50-106) with 36 runs, four doubles, two triples, 14 RBI and 18 stolen bases. She currently leads the team in at bats (106), runs, hits and steals and also ranks second in the conference in hits, third in runs scored and stolen bases and fifth in batting average.

Shufelt currently has a .377 (203-538) career batting average with 148 runs, 13 doubles, three triples, a home run, 40 RBI and 46 stolen bases in 48 attempts. As of April 15th, she ranks second in team history in at bats, runs and hits, third in steals and 11th in batting average.
