Lindsay Carey (Norwich), Taylor Cournoyer (Rivier), and Kelsey Tuthill (Emerson) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Softball Weekly Honors.

Carey led Norwich in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, RBIs, and doubles as the Cadets went 4-2 last week. Carey went 6-for-9 with 3 doubles, 8 RBIs and 6 runs scored as Norwich swept Lyndon State on April 13, winning 27-1 and 17-14. She went 3-for-7 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the Cadets’ sweep of Johnson & Wales, 9-3 and 12-0, on April 17. Carey also went 6-for-6 with 2 doubles, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored against GNAC powerhouse Rivier on April 18. The Cadets were swept by the Raiders, 5-3 and 21-5. Carey is ranked 1st on her team in hits (48), doubles (14), triples (3), RBIs (38), total bases (74), slugging percentage (.638), and is 3rd in batting average (.414). Norwich finished its regular season on April 19, as the team was swept by Lasell, 8-5 and 10-2. Norwich is currently in 8th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 9-15 and an overall record of 12-22. The Cadets currently sit in the 8th and final spot for the 2010 GNAC Softball Championships, which begin on April 21.

In another undefeated week for the Raiders, Cournoyer was simply a monster at the plate. Rivier swept Mount Ida, 3-1 and 10-2, on April 14, and Norwich, 5-3 and 21-5, on April 18. Cournoyer is ranked 1st in the GNAC in batting average (.551) and hits (54), is ranked 2nd in slugging percentage (.816), on base percentage (.553) and RBIs (36), is tied for 2nd in triples (5), is ranked 3rd in total bases (80), and is tied for 3rd in the conference in doubles (13). This is the 3rd time this season, and 2nd week in a row, that Cournoyer as earned Rookie of the Week honors. She was previously honored on March 22 and April 12. Rivier is currently in 1st place in the GNAC, with an undefeated conference record of 20-0 and an overall record of 26-1. The Raiders finish their regular season with a doubleheader against St. Joseph’s (ME) on April 20 before they prepare for the 2010 GNAC Softball Championships, which begin April 21.

Returning from injury, Tuthill began to regain the form that earned her the 2009 GNAC Pitcher of the Year award. In 4 appearances last week she earned 3 wins and a save, while allowing less than 3 hits per appearance with 26 strikeouts out of 54 outs registered (48%). Emerson was undefeated last week, sweeping Mount Ida, 5-2 and 9-2, on April 13, Emmanuel, 6-5 and 2-1, on April 14, and Johnson & Wales, 5-1 and 11-1, on April 18. Tuthill is tied for 1st in the GNAC in hit batters (6), and is tied for 4th in hits allowed (43). Emerson is currently in 3rd place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 19-3 and an overall record of 24-8. The Lions next play Simmons on April 20 before begin defending their 2009 GNAC Softball title when the 2010 GNAC Softball Championships begin on April 21.
