Wentworth Picked to Four-Peat in 2025 MVB Preseason Poll
WINTHROP, Mass. - Three-time defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball Conference Champion and associate member Wentworth Institute of
Technology (#9 nationally-ranked) looks to extend its title streak to four this upcoming 2025 season as they were voted as the preseason favorites in this year’s preseason poll as all eight of the league’s head
coaches conducted their votes last week.
Wentworth comes in the top spot with 62 total points and six first-place votes after they claimed their third conference championship in a row as the top seed in last year’s postseason tournament, breezing through the semifinals and championship game in six sets total and earned hosting duties on their home court in the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball
Tournament. The Leopards defeated Lancaster Bible in the opening round before losing a heart-breaker to Vassar in the quarterfinals, ending their season at 31-2.
Nationally-ranked #19 Lasell creeps right behind Wentworth as they place second in the poll with 57 points (two first-place votes). The Lasers look to bounce back from a semifinal exit and capture their first GNAC title in its programs history. Following behind them at the three spot is Emmanuel College, who collected 48 total points, as the Saints look to be in contention for the top spot this season.
Last year’s GNAC runner-up Rivier University looks to reclaim their spot on top as they search for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. The Raiders earned themselves 40
points in the preseason poll, rounding out the top four spots.
Regis comes in at no. 5 in this year’s poll as they earned 32 points. Associate member Emerson College earned 23 points to land at the sixth spot. Elms (14) and Dean (12) round out the final two spots at seven and eight.
The 2025 Men’s Volleyball season serves off this Saturday, Jan. 11th as Lasell will get the season going underway in non-conference action. Conference play will officially begin on Jan. 22 with Emmanuel taking on Regis. Teams will complete a 14-match double round robin which each conference member will match-up against each other twice. The postseason starts with quarterfinals action on Tuesday, April 8th in which the third seed hosts the sixth seed and the fourth seed will host the fifth seed. The winner of the 3/6 matchup will advance to face the two seed while the winner of the 4 and 5 seed matchup will take on the top seed to round out semifinals play, which takes place on Thursday, April 10. The semifinals winners will advance to the GNAC Championship game where they will take on each other on Saturday, April 12 for an automatic qualifying bid into the 2025 NCAA DIII Men’s Volleyball Championship.
