GNAC Men's Lacrosse Report: Week 2
JWU sophomore Tyler Drago posted 10 goals and three assists for 13 points to capture GNAC Player of the Week accolades.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Tyler Drago, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., A - Wakefield, Mass.) Drago led the Wildcats' offense to a 1-1 week including a neutral-site victory versus Alvernia, 23-9. The second-year player tallied 10 goals and three assists for 13 points on a 50% shooting percentage, including a program-record seven tallies against Alvernia. He also added a hat-trick in a 14-6 set back versus Eastern Connecticut on Sunday. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Jon Olson, Albertus Magnus (Fr., A - Bellmore, N.Y.) Olson led the Falcons to a convincing 22-8 victory over MCLA on Tuesday evening with a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists. The rookie also paced the team with five caused turnovers to go along with four ground balls. |
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Matt Gelb, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., M - Huntington, NY) - Gelb quarterbacked the JWU Offense to a 1-1 week, as the junior attack amassed 12 points. He had 10 points, including a program-record eight assists, in a 23-9 victory over Alvernia. Those eight assists along with two goals also tied a program-record for 10 points in one contest. He added two assists in the 14-6 loss to ECSU on Sunday afternoon.
James Anderson, Lasell (So., A - Medway, Mass.) - Anderson collected nine points on four goals and five assists, along with five ground balls, in a 1-1 week for the Lasers. He tallied two goals and three assists with two ground balls Wednesday in a loss to Roger Williams, and he racked up two goals and two assists with three ground balls Saturday in a 7-6 victory over Plymouth State as Lasell rallied from a 6-4 deficit to pull out the win.
Alex Beauchemin, Lasell (So., G - Westfield, Mass.) - Beauchemin recorded a 1-0 record with an 8.00 goals against average and a .714 save percentage with 30 saves in a pair of games. He made 14 saves on 20 shots (.700) in the second half Wednesday in a loss to Roger Williams, and he made 16 saves on 22 shots (.727) to earn the victory as Lasell rallied from a 6-4 deficit to pull out the win over Plymouth State.
Brendon Donahue, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., M - Lynn, Mass.) - Donahue made it possible for Regis to gain possession for the vast majority of Wednesday's victory at Thomas, winning a career-high 15 faceoffs on 17 chances for an .882 faceoff percentage (also a career high). Many of those wins came on his own effort, as Donahue collected a career-high 16 ground balls.
Nick Penta, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., GK - Andover, Mass.) - Penta played a significant role in Regis' first victory of the season last Wednesday at Thomas. For the second consecutive match, Penta made 15 saves, this time allowing just six goals in the Pride's victory. He notched a career-high single game save percentage of .714 during the contest. Penta made nine saves before halftime to keep Regis ahead, and then he collected four more saves in the third quarter to allow the Pride to pull away.
Nick Ackerman, Rivier (So, A - Durham, NH) - Ackerman posted a 12 point week with 9 goals and 3 assists helping his Raider team collect 2 wins. On Wednesday the Sophomore from Durham NH netted 4 and added a assist in a 14-2 win over Mitchell College. Saturday Ackerman increased his production pumping in 5 goals while dishing out 2 helpers in an 18-2 win at home over Becker College.
Shane Puleo, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (JR, A - Nashua, N.H.) - Puleo scored four goals and added four assists in a pair of games in California last week. The junior attack registered two goals and four assists in a 19-7 win over Houghton on Thursday.
