Saint Joseph's of Maine's Jamie Smyth Named GNAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year
After guiding the Monks to the GNAC Championship last month, SJC's Jamie Smyth has been voted the 2016 Coach of the Year by his peers.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College of Maine head coach Jamie Smyth has been voted the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Golf Coach of the Year, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. Smyth guided the Monks to the GNAC Championship crown last month at Gorham Country Club in Maine.
The Monks had entered Day Two competition at the event one stroke behind tournament host University of Southern Maine before shooting a collective 306 on the Sunday to win by three strokes (607) over Southern Maine and RIC, which both shot a 610. SJC receives an automatic NCAA Tournament bid next spring by virtue of clinching the conference championship.
Smyth's program saw three student-athletes receive All-Conference honors as well, as Michael Caron, Cam Letourneau and Adam Hachey all finished among the top-five at the GNAC Championship.
Saint Joseph's of Maine was also awarded with the GNAC Men's Golf Institutional Sportsmanship Award. For the 2016 Men's Golf All-Sportsmanship selections, please see below.
Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
