GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 1
Rivier senior forward Miles Gillette averaged 26.7 points and 15.0 rebounds as the Raiders got off to a 2-1 start to begin the 2021-22 campaign.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Miles Gillette, Rivier (Sr., F - Washington, DC) - Gillette was the go-to player for the Raiders in a 2-1 opening week, averaging 26.7 points and 15.0 rebounds while shooting 46.7% (28-60) from the floor, 47.1% from three (8-17), and 72.7% from the FT line (16-22). After registering an 18-point performance in a loss at Brandeis, he poured in 33 to go with 16 boards and four assists while playing all 40 minutes in a 95-92 win over MCLA out of the MASCAC. He closed out the week with a monster 29-point, 19-rebound effort in an 81-78 win over UMaine-Augusta.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Gabe Armstead, Anna Maria (So., F - Dallas, Ga.) - Armstead had an outstanding start to his collegiate career, averaging 22.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game as the AMCATS went 1-1 for the week with a win at Mitchell and a loss at Nichols. The rookie shot 53% from the floor and chipped in 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest. He had 17 points and 12 rebounds at Mitchell before going off for 28 points and 13 boards at Nichols.

HONOR ROLL
Mark Blair, Dean College (Jr, G - Rosedale, N.Y.) - Blair averaged a double-double of 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week. He began the week with 16 points and a game best 12 boards in a 56-46 victory over Framingham State. The junior ended the first week of action with 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in an 85-73 road win at Curry. Blair shot 50% from the floor for the week and added six total assists.
Donte Pope, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, G - Middletown, Conn.) - Paced Emmanuel during a 2-0 start in the EC Tip-Off Classic, averaging 13.5 points while shooting 52.0% from the field. The sophomore guard netted a team-high 21 points to close the weekend in a 71-52 victory over Bridgewater State, also grabbing 10 boards for the double-double. The rookie averaged 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and added a steal for the Saints in wins over BSU and Framingham State.
EJ Day, Lasell (Sr., G - Norwalk, Conn.) - Day averaged 22.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.0 steals in a 1-2 start to the season for Lasell, shooting 45.3% from the field (24-53), 38.9% from three (7-18), and 78.6% from the FT line (11-14). In the season opener against Husson, he scored 25 points on 10-21 from the field, making three from behind the arc and racked up five steals. He added 13 points in a mid-week clash with Babson and brought down nine rebounds. In the Lasers' win Saturday over Union out of the Liberty League, Day led the way with 28 points on 9-13 shooting, including 4-5 from three-point range, and added four assists with two steals and three rebounds.
Samuel-Noah Osarenkhoe, Norwich (Sr., G - Stockholm, Sweden) - Shot 45.5 percent from the field in two games this past week, scored double-digit points in both games averaging 13 ppg for the week. Also averaged four rebounds a game.
Cameron Wilkins, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., G - Taunton, Mass.) - Wilkins reached double figures in scoring in all three games (1-2) last week, averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 65.5% (19-29). over the past week. On Tuesday night, he shot 9-of-11 from the field to lead the Pride with 20 points against Holy Cross, scoring 19 of those points over a span of 15.5 minutes at the end of the first half and into the second stanza. On Friday, he shot 6-of-7 from the field as he notched his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. He concluded the week with 11 points, eight boards and three assists Saturday in Regis' victory over UMPI.
Tyree Mitchell, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., G - East Hartford, Conn.) - Mitchell helped power No. 9 USJ to a 2-0 start to the 2021-22 season, as the Blue Jays defeated Me.-Augusta and Alvernia in the opening weekend of play in the USJ Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 6-7. Mitchell was named the MVP of the tournament, averaging 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game, while shooting 52.2% (12-23) from the field, 57.1% (4-7) from three and 100% (5-5) from the free-throw line on the weekend. He opened the season with 13 points and three rebounds in 17 minutes on Saturday in a rout of Me.-Augusta, 104-50, before exploding for a career-high 20 points and career-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double to power USJ to a 76-55 victory over Alvernia in the championship game.
Nicholas Curtis, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Senior, G - Windham, Maine) - Curtis averaged 26.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 57.7% (15-26) from the floor, 52.9% (9-17) from three-point distance, and 93.3% (14-15) from the free throw line in a 1-1 opening week for the Monks. The senior guard netted 30 points with five assists and was 6-for-8 from downtown to lead Saint Joseph's to a 104-94 victory over New England College on Saturday.
