Great Northeast Athletic Conference Baseball Report - Week 7

Player of the Week
Joe Coyne (Duxbury, Mass.), Sophomore, Catcher, Saint Joseph's (Maine)
Coyne hit .419 (13-31) with 10 runs, four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI in a 7-1 week for the Monks. The sophomore catcher was 3-5 with two runs, a homer and three RBI in an 8-2 win over Colby College on Wednesday, went 2-3 with three runs, a double and a tater with two RBI in an 8-0 triumph over Daniel Webster on Friday, and capped the week by going 5-8 with three runs, a double and four RBI in a sweep of Rivier on Sunday. He also played well defensively and fielded 43 chances without making an error for a 1.000 fielding percentage over eight contests. 

Pitcher of the Week
Nick Whittaker (Yarmouth, Maine), Junior, Pitcher, Saint Joseph's (Maine)
Whittaker was nearly spotless in two starts last week, as the junior right-hander won both of his starts while posting a 0.69 ERA with five hits allowed and a 19:4 strikeout to walk ratio over 13 innings. He struck out 10 and allowed two hits in a 3-1 win over Albertus Magnus on Monday and capped the week with six frames of three-hit shutout work with nine K's and three walks in a 6-0 triumph versus Rivier University on Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Sean Gerich (Chicago, Ill.) Freshman, Infielder, Norwich University
Gerich led the Cadets late-season charge, as Norwich won five of six GNAC games this week. He hit .389 for the week overall, and hit .500 in league games. The rookie was 5/6 (.883) in a doubleheader split with Rivier and delivered the game-winning single in an extra-inning affair with Anna Maria on Sunday. He also had a .478 on-base percentage and turned five double plays in the field at second base.
