Former Suffolk University pitcher Reid Jackson (Burlington,
Mass.) has signed a contract with the Brockton Rox of the CanAm
Independent League for the upcoming 2011 season. Jackson graduated
from Suffolk University in 2009 as he helped lead the Rams to their
fourth NCAA Regional Tournament appearance that season.
During his four seasons at Suffolk Jackson posted an 18-11 record
with a 3.62 career earned run average, starting 35 games for the
Rams. During his senior season Jackson was 6-4 with a 3.36 ERA as
the Rams finished the year with a 30-11 mark. As a sophomore
Jackson was 7-2 on the hill with a 2.46 ERA. In 45 career
appearances the Suffolk southpaw logged 218 1/3 innings striking
out 173 hitters while only walking 78. Jackson was a second team
All-Conference selection by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference
(GNAC) in 2007 and 2009.
Jackson was a non-roster spring training invitee to the Rox camp in
May and made the final cut for the 22-man roster. The Rox will open
up the 2011 season as they host the Worcester Tornadoes on Thursday
May 26 at Campanelli Stadium at 7:05pm. Jackson will be playing
under former 22-year Major League veteran, and Boston Red Sox
player Bill Buckner.
Head Coach Cary McConnell was elated when he heard the news
regarding Jackson. “Reid has always shown a true passion for
the game and we are pleased to hear that his persistence in trying
to continue his playing career beyond college has been rewarded.
His strong competitive nature should suit him well at the next
level.”
Jackson becomes the fifth player over the past five seasons under
McConnell to sign a professional contract, and second with the
Brockton Rox. Jackson joins Max Nunez ’00 (Boston Red
Sox), Anthony Del Prete ’04 (Evansville Otters/Frontier
League), Mike Rigazio ’06 (Charlotte County Red Fish/South
Coast League) and Rony Mercado ’06 (Brockton Rox/Can Am
League) to sign out of the Suffolk program in the past decade.
