WESTON, Mass. – Hannah Richard has agreed to become the new head coach of the Regis College field hockey team, effective June 7, 2021.
Richard comes to Regis after serving as the first assistant coach at Tufts University since March 2019. Assisting in all aspects of the program, Richard helped the Jumbos post a 15-5 record in 2019, advancing to the championship match of the NESCAC Tournament and the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
Previously, Richard spent time as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I teams Holy Cross and Bucknell, playing a role in many areas of both programs including recruiting, practice and game planning, fundraising, and team travel. She has also served as a national futures coach for USA Field Hockey, and she is a program director and coach for Lead the Way Field Hockey, creating new programming and coaching the top training groups within the club since December 2017.
"I am extremely excited to welcome Hannah Richard as our head field hockey coach," Pam Roecker, Regis College Dean of Athletics, said. "Coach Richard brings a wealth of experience to our program, including a Division I playing career at the University of New Hampshire, as well as assistant coaching positions at Bucknell, Holy Cross, and, most recently, traditional NESCAC powerhouse Tufts, all of which have more than prepared her for success in this new role. More importantly, Coach Richard is a personable and talented recruiter who possesses a student-focused approach to coaching. She is a team-oriented coach who will be a great addition to our athletic department and college community as the leader of our field hockey program."
From 2010 to 2013, Richard played at the University of New Hampshire, helping the Wildcats win the America East Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament in both 2011 and 2013. As a junior in 2012, she earned Second Team All-America East honors after leading the team with 14 goals and 32 total points. Richard followed with 10 goals in her senior season, once again picking up Second Team All-America East recognition.
"I want to thank Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker and the search committee for this extraordinary opportunity. I am extremely excited and ready to bring my high energy and knowledge of the game to Regis College," said Richard. "The way the entire Regis College community presents itself makes me already feel comfortable to be a part of the Pride family. I hope to make a strong impact on the field hockey program from an academic and athletic standpoint!"
Richard received her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport studies from the University of New Hampshire in 2014, minoring in business administration and coaching. In 2016, she earned her Master of Science degree in athletic administration from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
