Oliver Chosen as a Finalist for the Glenn Robinson Award
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 23, 2012) – Fifth-year head coach Mitch Oliver of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team has been named one of the 10 finalists for the 2012 Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year award. The Glenn Robinson Award is presented annually to the top Division III men’s basketball coach in the nation.

#15 Falcons to Face Saint Joseph’s College L.I. in NCAA Tournament
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 27, 2012) – The No. 15 Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team will travel to Middlebury, Vt. to take on Saint Joseph’s College Long Island in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. The Falcons’ tournament opener will take place on Friday, March 2 at 5:30p.m. at Middlebury College.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 25, 2012) – Four players for the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team scored in double figures as the Falcons won their third Great Northeast Athletic Conference title by defeating Anna Maria 88-54 on Saturday afternoon in the league’s title game.

Newton, MA - Junior guard Sean Bertanza became the 11th player in the history of the men's basketball program to score 1,000 career points in the men's basketball victory over Norwich University on February 18th.

No. 20 Falcons Set Program Record in Wins; Finish 18-0 in GNAC Play
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 18, 2012) – The Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team earned their program-record 24th win on Saturday afternoon with a 75-62 victory over Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. With the victory, the Falcons improve to a perfect 18-0 in the league as they are the only team in GNAC men’s basketball history to finish undefeated in regular-season conference play.

Nathan Firn Leads A Potent Lion Offense as Men's Basketball Tops Rivier
NASHUA, NH – Nathan Firn lit it up for 16 points Tuesday night to keep the Emerson Men's Basketball Team in it to win it as the Lions shot 50% on the game and 82% from the free throw line to take a nailbiter away from GNAC rival, Rivier 69-64. The win places Emerson at 6-18 overall and 6-12 in the conference while Rivier drops to 4-18 overall and 2-14 in the GNAC.

No. 20 Falcons Record 23rd Victory with 87-73 win at JWU
PROVIDENC, R.I. (February 14, 2012) – With an 87-73 win over Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night, the No. 20 Albertus Magnus men’ basketball team has improved its overall record to 23-1 on the year, tying the program’s record in single season wins. Their 18th-straight victory also moves the Falcons to a perfect 17-0 in conference play with one regular-season game remaining on their schedule.

Lions Dominate Second Half To Top Suffolk
BOSTON, Mass. - In an electric rematch between the visiting Suffolk University Rams and Emerson College, the Lions netted their second victory over the cross-Common rival with a 74-64 win Saturday afternoon. With the W, EC moves to 4-17 on the year, and 4-10 in the GNAC while Suffolk falls to 8-14 and 5-10 in the conference.

PAXTON, Mass. (01.28.12) – Junior guard Anthony Click (Springfield, Mass.) had a team high 20 points en route to becoming the 20th player in Anna Maria history to surpass the 1,000 points plateau but the AMCATS fell to Lasell College 60-55 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at The Fuller Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Lasers improve to 8-11 (7-5 GNAC) the loss drops Anna Maria to 7-11 (5-6 GNAC).
Click hit the milestone mark when he drained a jumper from the right side with 14:06 left in the second half. Click scored his 20 points on 8-for14 shooting from the field, he also grabbed 10 boards, dished out 3 assists had 4 blocks and two steals before fouling out with two minutes to play in the game. AMC senior Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, RI) contributed with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks.

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph’s (13-6, 7-0 GNAC) held off Suffolk University (13-6, 6-2 GNAC), 73-60, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon. Monks sophomore forward Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) netted a game-high 22 points and pulled down six rebounds in the weighty conference win.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Mount Ida College men's basketball senior Keith Jones (Boston, MA/Lake Brantley (FL)/Mass. Bay C.C.) sunk the go-ahead bucket undoing a 59-59 stalemate with seconds remaining closing out a 61-59 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over visiting Emmanuel College Tuesday evening in dramatic fashion. The Mustangs led for almost the entire contest up by a game-high 16 points early in the second half until surrendering the lead in the final ticks but eventually sneaking away with their third league victory of the year.

DUKE BECOMES 6TH PLAYER IN EMMANUEL MEN’S BASKETBALL HISTORY TO NET 1,000 POINTS
BOSTON, Mass. – On January, 7, 2012, Emmanuel College senior Isaiah Duke (Albany, N.Y.) became just the sixth player in the program’s 11-year history to reach the 1,000 point milestone, scoring nine points against Saint Joseph’s College (ME) to achieve the feat. The guard became the first player to net 1,000 points for the program since Mack Spellman (2009) joined the 1,000 point club on Jan. 21, 2008.

BOSTON, Mass. (January 14, 2012) – The Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team edged Emerson 57-53 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) led the Falcons with 15 points, while Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) added 14 points in 37 minutes of work.

Askew Becomes GNAC’s All-Time Leading Rebounder
NASHUA, N.H. (January 10, 2012) – Senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team pulled down six rebounds in Tuesday night’s game to become the Great Northeast Athletic Conference all-time leader in rebounds with 1,004. Askew also becomes only the second player in league history to earn over 1,000 rebounds.

Albertus Magnus leads the 2011-2012 pre-season polls for men’s basketball based on a vote from all GNAC coaches. The Albertus Falcons finished the 2010-2011 season with a 3rd place spot and was selected to the ECAC tournament for their outstanding record.

Lamonte Thomas Records 2000th Point In Men’s Basketball 74-71 Win Over Roger Williams In Season Opener
The Wildcats men's basketball team kicked off the 2011-2012 campaign with a 74-71 win over intra-state rival Roger Williams on Tuesday evening. The night was highlighted by senior guard Lamonte Thomas' (Providence, R.I.) 2,000th career point which came with :48 seconds left in the first half. Thomas became the first Wildcat to ever accomplish the feat in school history and third ever in the history of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

GNAC Student-Athletes Serve the Community at the 8th Annual Brian J. Honan 5k Road Race
Several Student-Athletes represented the Great Northeast Athletic Conference at the 8th Annual Brian J. Honan 5k Road Race this past weekend, an event that our member institutions have been volunteering at since its inception. The teams contributed to the day’s success by setting up the race day headquarters, taking registrations, working water stations, handing out medals at the finish line, holding mile markers, and cheering on the participants.
