STANDISH, ME – Senior center Ashley Geel (St. George, Maine) is the latest Saint Joseph's women's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in her collegiate career.
Geel netted her 1,000th career point in an 88-39 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Pine Manor College on Tuesday night at the Harold Alfond Center. She entered the game with 984 points and reached the milestone with a layup at the 11:07 mark of the second half. Classmate Megan McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play.
The 2011 Second Team All-GNAC selection tallied 16 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots and made seven of nine shots from the floor in the victory over the Gators.
Geel is the 20th member of the Monks' 1,000-Point Club and the first to reach the landmark since former teammate Carolyn Freeman '09 accomplished the feat during the 2008-09 campaign.
With 628 career rebounds, the 6'1 center is the eighth player in program history to amass 1,000 points and 600 rebounds. Geel, the Monks' all-time blocks leader with 190 rejections, joins Mary Lou Kimball '89 as one of only two players to register at least 1,000 points, 600 caroms and 100 blocks in their career at Saint Joseph's.
