GNAC Mens Tennis Weekly Honors: April 19

Collin Hyte (Norwich) and Mitch Lance (Emerson) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Men’s Tennis Weekly Honors.

Hyte picked up singles wins against opponents from Lyndon State, Suffolk and Albertus Magnus last week, giving him a perfect 8-0 record at No. 1 singles this season. He also earned doubles victories against Lyndon State and Albertus Magnus. Hyte upended Diego Alvarado in a super tiebreaker to account for Norwich’s only point in an 8-1 loss to the Rams on April 18. The Cadets defeated Lyndon State, 6-3, on April 15 and Albertus Magnus, 8-1 on April 18. The Cadets finished the regular season in 4th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 1-3 and an overall record of 7-3. Norwich earned the No. 4 seed in the 2010 GNAC Men’s Tennis Championship and will face the No. 1 seed Suffolk Rams in the semifinals on April 22.

Lance was the only Lion to win all 4 of his matches in a 2-0 week for Emerson. He won both his singles match and teamed for a huge doubles point in Emerson’s 5-4 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on April 15. He continued his winning ways in the Lions’ 9-0 win over Johnson & Wales on April 18. Lance is 7-3 in singles play this season and is on a four-game winning-streak. Emerson finished the regular season in 2nd place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 8-3. The Lions earned the No. 2 seed in the 2010 GNAC Men’s Tennis Championship and will face the No. 3 seed Wildcats of Johnson & Wales in the semifinals on April 22.
