Hitter, Rivier University
Finlayson picked up right where she left off in 2011 by
opening the 2012 campaign strong with 110 kills and 61 digs over
six matches to average a gaudy 5.00 kills per set. Against the
University of New England, Finlayson pounded down a match-high 27
kills while also collecting 13 digs and four block assists.
Defensive Player of the Week
Giselle Cram-Ortiz (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico),
Junior, Libero, Johnson & Wales University
During the first voting period, Cram-Ortiz averaged an
impressive 6.40 digs per set, collecting 128 total digs over five
matches. The junior was named to the All-Tournament Team at both
the Western Connecticut State University Invitational as well as
the Johnson & Wales University Invitational.
Rookie of the Week
Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.), Freshman, Outside
Hitter, Simmons College
Nesta played in every set of the Sharks eight matches
this week and led the team on offense with 97 kills and a .311
hitting percentage. The rookie was awarded MVP honors of the Colby
College Invitational and posted 10 or more kills in seven of the
eight contest this week for Simmons.
