NASHUA, N.H. (January 10, 2012) – Senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team pulled down six rebounds in Tuesday night’s game to become the Great Northeast Athletic Conference all-time leader in rebounds with 1,004. Askew also becomes only the second player in league history to earn over 1,000 rebounds.

At the 12:17 mark of the Falcons’ league contest at Rivier College in Nashua, N.H., Askew grabbed his fourth rebound of the game and the 1,002 rebound of his career to surpass former Rivier College standout Jeff Carpenter’s mark of 1,001, the previous conference record.

With six rebounds and 16 points on the night, Askew improved his career tallies to 1,004 rebounds and 1,840 points in four years of action at Albertus Magnus.

Askew’s career rebound tally is just 32 shy of the Albertus Magnus rebounding record of 1,036, which was set by Jason Crockett ‘98 in the mid-90s. Crockett was a basketball standout for Albertus from 1994-98 and led the Falcons to the program’s first-ever GNAC Championship title during the 1995-96 season. The GNAC began play during the 1995-96 academic year as Crockett’s stats from his freshman season in 1994-95 were not counted on that GNAC list.

Askew is only 160 points away from the 2,000-mark plateau as only two players in the history of the conference have scored over 2,000 points. That list includes Albertus Magnus’ Tim Russell who holds the GNAC record in points scored with 2,234.
