Abbriano Leads NU Women's Lacrosse to Road Win
STANDISH, MAINE – Senior midfielder Kacey Abbriano (Hicksville, N.Y.) continued an impressive personal streak and helped Norwich University add to another April 19.
She fired five goals past St. Joseph’s College of Maine net minder Haley Nason to spark a 13-8 Cadets’ win at Westerlea Field. The performance moved her personal multiple-goal games’ skein to 20, while Norwich’s Great Northeast Athletic win string moved to 24.
Two of the scores were part of an early offensive binge where the Maroon and Gold (9-0, 7-0 GNAC) jumped out to a 6-1 lead. She added two more during the second part of the opening half to give Coach Beth VanParys’ squad a 10-6 halftime lead.
After the two sides produced a 16-goal opening frame, the defenses stepped up in the second stanza. The Cadets reeled off three scores in the first 12 minutes to hold a commanding 13-6 lead before the Monks (8-5, 5-3) tallied the final two goals.
Following Abbriano on the NU offensive chart was senior attacker Danielle Del Dotto (Andover. Mass.)with three goals. Sophomore midfielder Grace Fitzpatrick (Falmouth, Maine) recorded her seventh consecutive multiple-goal game with two markers. Other impressive numbers went to Abbriano (two assists, seven points and eight shots) and Fitzpatrick (six ground balls and three caused turnovers). Senior goalkeeper Meghan Kennedy (Lowell, Mass.), earning her 14th straight victory, turned in 11 saves.
Norwich continues its 2012 regular season with back-to-back home games at Howard Field. Anna Maria College is the Cadets’ guest for Senior Day festivities Saturday, April 21, at 12 p.m., while Emerson battles NU in a critical late-season league game Sunday, April 22, at 1 p.m.
