Askew Earns ECAC DIII New England Player of the Week Honors
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 14, 2012) – Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week as announced by the ECAC office on Tuesday afternoon.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 14, 2012) – Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week as announced by the ECAC office on Tuesday afternoon.
Askew, who was also named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player (GNAC) of the Week for his efforts, led the Falcons in the 2-0 week as he averaged 41.5 points per game. In addition to his league honor, Askew earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week as he led the Falcons to their 17th-straight win on Saturday as Albertus improved to 22-1 on the year and a perfect 16-0 in league play.
Askew scored a career-high 52 points in the Falcons’ come-from-behind victory at Lasell on Saturday, Feb. 11. He added 10 rebounds to his 52-point effort for his 10th double-double of the season.
The senior also scored 31 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Falcons’ non-conference win at Trinity on Feb. 7.
Heading into tonight’s conference game at Johnson & Wales, Askew has recorded 2,153 career points and is just 81 points shy of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball record of 2,234 held by Tim Russell ’05. Askew already holds both the GNAC and Albertus Magnus all-time rebounding records (1,119).
