St. Joseph's College of Maine Will Host 2011 Golf Championship

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced that Saint Joseph's College will host the 2011 Golf Championship at the Gorham Country Club on Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th next fall. Tee times will be 10:00 AM both days.
Eight programs are slated to compete in the 2011 GNAC Golf Championship Tournament: Anna Maria College, Emmanuel College, Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island College, Saint Joseph's, Suffolk University, UMass.-Dartmouth, and University of Southern Maine.
The 2007 and 2008 tourneys were both hosted by Johnson & Wales. The 2008 tournament was played at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, Rhode Island and the 2007 championship was played at the North Kingstown Golf Course in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. The tournament will be played in Maine for the first time in 2011.
UMass.-Dartmouth captured the 2010 GNAC Championship at Triggs Memorial Golf Course last fall. The Corsairs' 16-stroke victory ended a three-year run by Johnson & Wales.
A championship course covering 180 acres of Maine State Game Preserve, Gorham Country Club was established in 1960 and is located just 15 miles from Portland. The course is operated under the guidance of PGA Head Professional Richard Altham.
