Sharks Place 13th, Earn Sportsmanship Award at NEISDA
Naomi Rudov Simmons College Athletic CommunicationsSimmons Swimming and Diving swam to a 13th place team points finish at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center. Out of 32 individual Simmons entries, 27 athletes had season-best times, culminating in a new school record of 56.15 in the 100 Free by freshman Jen Collins (Trumbull, Conn.). Simmons also took home the Steve Looke Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded after a vote by all NEISDA coaches.
“The athletes worked so hard this season and it showed at our championship. They looked strong, they were competitive and they swam with confidence,” said Head Coach Mindy Williams. “I am so proud that the team was recognized for outstanding sportsmanship. This is a great honor and it is well deserved.”
Both the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay (both of Amy Davis, Virginia Bette, Marissa Soucy and Collins) qualified for finals and finished in 8th place. “Individually, people swam well, but I was particularly pleased with how competitive our relays were, said Williams. “There were some really fast teams at this meet, and Simmons hung with them. We came very close to school records in all three freestyle relays and the athlete's splits were impressive."
