GNAC Softball Weekly Honors: April 25, 2011
Marley Balasco (Norwich), Briana Day (Norwich) and Maddie Kluna (St. Joseph’s) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Softball Weekly Honors.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marley Balasco, Norwich, Sr., Barrington, RI
Norwich’s senior catcher, Marley Balasco, was unstoppable at the plate with a .680 batting average, leading Norwich to a 4-2 week and put the Cadets in prime position for a playoff spot. Balasco went 17 for 25 with five homeruns, 17 RBIs, 14 runs scored, four walks, and one stolen base. She hit two home runs in consecutive plate appearances helped NU rally from an early 2-0 hole to defeat Mount Ida 10-4 on Thursday. Overall she had a .724 on-base percentage and a 1.280 slugging percentage as well.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Briana Day, Norwich, Fr., Yelm, WA
Norwich’s rookie, Briana Day, had a breakout week at the plate, batting .591, for the Cadets and contributed to Norwich’s 4-2 week. She belted three homeruns and racked up 18 RBIs to go along with a 1.136 slugging percentage, and .654 on-base percentage.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Maddie Kluna, Saint Joseph's (ME), Jr., Standish, ME
St. Joseph’s junior pitcher, Maddie Kluna, had quite an accomplishment on Friday when she threw a remarkable perfect game with four strikeouts against Lasell College. Additionally, Kluna was 2-0 on the week with a 0.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14 innings. This marks the second time this season that Maddie Kluna has earned GNAC Pitcher of the Week.
