GNAC Softball Weekly Honors: April 18, 2011
Emily Cunningham (Simmons), Lynn Herman (Emerson) and Kelsey Tuthill (Emerson) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Softball Weekly Honors.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lynn Herman, Emerson, Sr., Boca Raton, FL
Emerson’s senior captain, Lynn Herman, continued her hitting streak with a .600 average and .933 slugging percentage, leading Emerson to the top spot in the conference with a 6-0 week. She was 4-6 with runners in scoring position, advanced runners in 8 of 11 opportunities (.727) and five of her seven RBI came when there were two outs. The veteran outfielder also played remarkable defense, fielding 1.000 on the week.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Emily Cunningham, Simmons, Fr., Cotuit, MA
Simmons’ rookie first baseman, Emily Cunningham, batted .625 (10-for-16) for the Sharks in a 3-1 GNAC week. Cunningham collected four doubles, a triple and 8 RBI with a .938 slugging percentage. At first base, she played flawless defense in six games played on the week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kelsey Tuthill, Emerson, Jr., Middlefield, CT
Emerson’s junior pitcher, Kelsey Tuthill, was dominant during the week striking out 29 of the 39 batters she faced (74%), and not allowing a run. She accomplished a 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in 15 innings pitched and allowing only a .118 opponent batting average. Additionally, Tuthill averaged 1.93 strikeouts per inning while pitching Emerson back into first place in the Conference standings.
