2011 Men's Volleyball All-Conference Teams Announced

FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Curtis Abram Emmanuel Senior San Luis Obsipo, CA
Emmanuel’s Curtis Abram has accomplished countless volleyball honors in his senior season including the 2011 GNAC Player of the Year award. This First-team All-Conference selection leads the Saints in kills, aces and hitting percentage and also was named Emmanuel’s All-Time Kills Leader this season. Abram led the Saints to a second place finish this season and accrued numerous accolades along the way including NECVA Player of the Week award, both Endicott and Hawks Invitational’s All-Tournament team selections, and a three-time GNAC Player of the Week honoree.
Jared Andreozzi Rivier Senior Barrington, RI
Rivier’s Jared Andreozzi led the Raiders’ to a fourth consecutive GNAC Championship title. The senior was the Raiders’ offensive leader, averaging 4.19 kills per set, naming him #6 in the country and while leading the Nation in total kills with 463. Andreozzi was named the MVP of the 2011 GNAC Tournament, selected to the Baruch College and Nazareth College all-tournament team, and also a two-time GNAC Player of the Week selection.
Tyson Reitz Emmanuel Senior Granite Bay, CA
Emmanuel’s Tyson Reitz has been named to the GNAC First-team all-conference. The senior ranks second on the Saints in kills, digs, and aces. Reitz averages 2.20 kills, 2.10 digs, .66 aces per set and has maintained a .318 hitting percentage on the season. Also he was selected as the GNAC Player of the Week on February 28th.
Spencer Hastings Mount Ida Sophomore Orlando, FL
Mount Ida’s Spencer Hastings has been named to GNAC First-Team all-conference. The sophomore captain led the Mustangs in six of the major statistical categories this season including kills, service aces, digs, solo blocks, block assists, and total blocks. He is currently ranked in NCAA Division III in several categories including 14th in aces per set (.46), 22nd in kills per set (3.30), 26th for blocks per set (.79), and 62nd in hitting percentage. Not only is Hastings a leader offensively, but has led the Mustangs in digs for the season with 187.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Andrew Glenn Lasell Freshman Westport, CT
Lasell’s Andrew Glenn has been named the 2011 GNAC Rookie of the Year and awarded a spot on the GNAC First-Team All-Conference team. The rookie has set an unbelievable record in his freshman season of over 1,000 assists thus far (1,044) averaging 9.32 per set, which has led him to an 11th rank in NCAA Division III. Glenn has recorded three double-double performances as well. He was awarded as the GNAC Rookie of the Week five times this season, while also being named to the Johnson & Wales Invitational all-tournament team.
Nick Updike Emmanuel Sophomore Manhattan Beach, CA
Emmanuel’s Nick Updike has been named to the GNAC First-Team All-conference for his tremendous performance as the Saints’ starting setter. The sophomore recorded his 1,000 career assists this season, while accomplishing a spot as Emmanuel’s 4th all-time leading setter. Updike has averages 1.21 kills, 1.24 digs and 0.49 blocks per set on the season; and currently ranks 17th in NECVA and 19th amongst NCAA Division III in assists per set. He was named to the Endicott Invitational All-Tournament team, the MIT Invitational All-Tournament team, and also awarded GNAC Player of the Week honors on January 31st.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jake DeLuise, Emmanuel, Sr., Wakefield, RI
Emmanuel’s Jake DeLuise has been named as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and to the GNAC Second-team all-conference for his performance as the Saints’ starting Libero and top defender. The senior and three-time team averaged 2.5 digs per set and finished the season with a total of 220. DeLuise leads the GNAC and ranks 15th in NCAA Division III in digs.
