GNAC Baseball Weekly Honors: April 18, 2011

Mike Mahoney (Lasell), James Sullivan (Emerson) and Alex Torres (Suffolk) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Baseball Weekly Honors.

 

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mike Mahoney, Lasell, Jr., Rockland, MA

Lasell’s junior outfielder, Mike Mahoney, led the Lasers to a 3-0 week. Mahoney went 5-for-11 with a .454 batting average, a .636 slugging percentage and a .416 on base percentage. He knocked in two doubles, brought in five RBI, and scored three runs of his own. Mahoney’s top performance of the week came in the the Lasers’ game against Lesley, where he went 4-for-5 with three RBI.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

James Sullivan, Emerson, Fr., Medfield, MA

Emerson’s rookie outfielder, James Sullivan has brought solid play to the Lions’ centerfield spot this week while also going 6-for-14, collecting a .429 batting average and .500 slugging percentage. Sullivan went 2-for-3 with runners in scoring position while and also advanced runners in four of eight opportunities. Defensively, he played errorless in centerfield with five putouts and an assist.

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Alex Torres, Suffolk, Sr., Framingham, MA

Suffolk’s senior pitcher, Alex Torres, fired a complete game two hit shutout in game one of the Rams' 4-0 victory over St. Joseph's College on Saturday. Torres allowed just two singles with five strikeouts, shutting the Monks out at home for the first time since 2007. This marks the second time this season that Torres has earned GNAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
