SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Relocating to South Burlington High School to play under the lights against the Emerson Lions (3-1 GNAC), the Norwich Cadets (5-0) continue their success, ending Emerson’s undefeated conference streak with a 14-6 win on the neutral field in Northern Vermont.
The Cadets received four goals apiece from freshman Courtney Saheim and junior captain Kacey Abbriano. Saheim also recorded three assists to give her 27 points on the season to date, as the freshman now leads Norwich on the statistics charts.
Junior Mollie Fitzpatrick added another two points to the final score. Her sister, freshman Grace Fitzpatrick tallied a goal, as did juniors Danielle Del Dotto, Suzanne Whitaker, and Lindsey Mathias.
Senior goalkeeper Kellie Pickel stopped seven shots in the action.
Norwich opened the scoring on Saheim’s first goal less than a minute into the game, but the Lions took back the lead on goals by Katie Dodge and Laura Miley.
Back-to-back goals by Abbriano gave Norwich the 3-2 advantage that Emerson would never recover from. Mollie Fitzpatrick followed up with her first goal of the night on a free position shot to make it a two-point spread before the Lions were able to answer back.
Dodge found the back of the net once again to keep it a one-point game for the Lions, but four unanswered goals from the Cadets would wrap up the first half of action.
The Lions held Norwich to five goals in the second half, but their three tallied points weren’t enough to close the gap that had been created by the maroon and gold.
The Cadets are back in action on Wednesday when they are scheduled to play Castleton at 4 p.m.
