Suffolk University Athletics Names Noel Moran Head Volleyball Coach for 2011

The Suffolk University Athletic Department announced that Noel Moran will serve as Head Volleyball Coach for the 2011 season. Moran, who has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach takes over a program that has seen improvement in wins over the past two seasons.

Moran takes over for Heather Cox, who will step aside to pursue her law degree at Suffolk University.

Moran is no stranger to the Regan Gymnasium, the home of the Rams, as she is a 2008 graduate from Suffolk. Moran had a very successful collegiate career at Suffolk in which she was a four-year starter as an Outside Hitter. During her senior season she was named a Team Captain, as well as being named to the GNAC All-Conference All-Star team. While at Suffolk, Noel also served on the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) for all four years.

Director of Athletics, James Nelson was pleased to announce to hiring of Moran. “We are very excited to put our Volleyball program into the hands of Noel Moran. Both she and Heather have done a great job over the past two seasons in turning the program around and setting the foundation for a strong future for the Rams. We hope that Noel can continue to share her experiences and successes on the volleyball court with our student-athletes.”

Before coming to Suffolk, Noel was a standout player at New Bedford High School where she set the school record for digs in 2003. She was also awarded High School All Scholastic High School Career Honors by the Standard Times (New Bedford, MA). Noel was also a member of two Gold Medal winning teams (2002, 2003) in the Bay State Games as well as a Silver Medal winning team in 2001. She also competed in the Junior Olympics for eight years. In the summer of 2002, Noel travelled overseas to play in New Zealand and Australia.

Suffolk finished the 2010 season with a 13-19 overall record, while compiling a 4-8 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Moran graduated from Suffolk in 2008 with her Bachelor's of Science in Communications/Public Relations.
