GNAC Rookies of the Week: October 13

Christina Annicelli (Women’s X-Country, Lasell), Danielle Figueroa (Women’s Soccer, Albertus Magnus), Kenna Finlayson (Women’s Volleyball, Rivier), Kyle Harper (Men’s Golf, Rhode Island College), Sabrina Salmela (Women’s Tennis, Simmons College), Matthew Scully (Men’s X-Country, Lasell), and Kevin Shirley (Men’s Soccer, Emmanuel) have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookies of the Week.


Men’s Golf- Kyle Harper, Rhode Island College, Fr., Rehoboth, Mass.
Rhode Island College Freshman, Kyle Harper, tied for 16th place, with a score of 81 at the Bison Invitational. The Rehoboth, Mass. native also tied for 16th with an 80 at the RIC Invitational.


Men’s X-Country- Matthew Scully, Lasell College, Fr., Watertown, Conn.
Three-time Rookie of the Week, Matthew Scully was the first Lasell runner and 14th overall runner to cross the finish line at the Runnin' Monks Invitational. In every meet for the Lasers this season, Scully finished first for Lasell.

Men’s Soccer- Kevin Shirley, Emmanuel College, Fr., Madison, Conn.
Leading Emmanuel to a victory over rival Johnson & Wales, was rookie forward Kevin Shirley from Madison, Conn. Shirley led the Saints to the program's first-ever win over Johnson & Wales scoring a goal and dishing out an assist in the 3-0 shut-out.

Women’s X-Country, Christina Annicelli, Lasell College, Fr., North Easton, Mass.

Another Lasell runner to sweep the Rookie of the Week for Cross Country was Christina Annicelli. A local from North Easton, Mass., Annicelli earned 25th place in the Runnin' Monks Invitiational, with a time of 23:52 and finishing third overall for the Lasers.

Women’s Soccer- Danielle Figueroa, Albertus Magnus, Fr., Bridgeport, Conn.
Scoring three goals for Albertus Magnus to lead them to a 1-1 record for the week was Freshman Danielle Figueroa. A two-time Rookie of the Week, Figueroa scored all three goals for the Falcons including the game winner in a 1-0 triumph over Johnson and Wales University.

Women’s Tennis- Sabrina Salmela, Simmons College, Fr., Beverly, Mass.

Leading the Rookies of the Week, Sabrina Salmela has been honored four out of the past five weeks. This week Salmela was unbeaten against Suffolk in #1 singles and doubles, previously the Beverly, Mass. native was unbeaten in GNAC matches.

Women’s Volleyball- Kenna Finlayson, Rivier College, Fr., Derry, N.H.
Playing well in women’s volleyball was Kenna Finlayson from Rivier College. Finlayson recorded 14 kills in the 4 set match against non-conference matchup M.I.T. Over the past three matches this week, the Derry N.H. native, hit for her best percentage to date with a .333 hitting percentage, which led Rivier to two conference wins against Norwich and St. Joseph (Conn.
