GNAC Players of the Week: September 29
Kayleight Holt (Women’s Tennis, Emerson), Rob Leaver
(Men’s Golf, UMass-Dartmouth), Kate McKenna (Women’s
Soccer, Emmanuel), Joseph Rosenthal (Men’s Cross Country,
Norwich), Shane Vinnicombe (Men’s Soccer, Lasell), Cat
Viglienzoni (Women’s Cross Country, Emerson) and Brittany
Souza (Women’s Volleyball, Saint Joseph – Conn.) have
been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Players of the Week.
Kory Blythe (Women’s Soccer, Johnson & Wales) and Jack
DeJesus (Men’s Soccer, Suffolk) were named Goalkeepers of the
Week.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Men’s Cross Country – Joseph Rosenthal, Norwich, Fr.,
Pasadena, Md.
Won the individual race at the Rivier Invitational, touring the
8,000-meter course in a time of 27:20 … helped the Cadets
win the team title as well.
Women’s Cross Country – Cat Viglienzoni, Emerson, Jr.,
Soquel, Calif.
Placed first of 71 runners in the Rivier Raiders Invitational meet
in a time of 21:46. Viglienzoni won her second consecutive meet of
the season.
Men’s Soccer – Shane Vinnicombe, Lasell, Sr.,
Pomfret Center, Conn.
Vinnicombe scored two goals against GNAC competitors Albertus
Magnus College on Saturday to lead Lasell to a 3-1 victory over the
Falcons.
Women’s Soccer – Kate McKenna, Emmanuel, Sr.,
Holyoke, Mass.
The senior captain led Emmanuel to an undefeated week in GNAC
play, scoring 3 goals and dishing out 2 assis
ts. McKenna notched a goal and 2 assists in Emmanuel's 6-4 win over
Suffolk and then scored 2 goals in the Saints' 4-2 win at Norwich
on Saturday.
Women’s Tennis – Kayleigh Holt, Emerson, Sr.,
Somerset, Mass.
Undefeated in singles play, took a three set victory over
Suffolk's #1 player and gave up only three games in her other two
singles wins.
Women’s Volleyball – Brittany Souza, St.
Joseph (Conn.), Jr. Newington, Conn.
Junior Brittany Souza led the Blue Jays to a record of 3-1 this
week with 81 kills, 27 digs and 15 blocks over the 4 games.
Men’s Golf – Rob Leaver, UMass-Dartmouth, Sr.,
Lakeville, Mass.
Rob shot rounds of 78 and 77 in leading the Corsairs at the
season-opening Duke Nelson Invitational Tournament at Middlebury
College.
GOALKEEPERS OF THE WEEK
Women’s Soccer – Kory Blythe, Johnson &
Wales, So., Fall River, Mass.
In the 1-0 overtime win against Framingham, tallied a shutout with
seven saves and followed up that performance with a five save game
in the 2-1 overtime win over Rivier.
Men’s Soccer – Jack DeJesus, Suffolk, Jr.,
Swampscott, Mass.
Jack DeJesus posted his first shutout of the season in a 2-0
victory on Saturday over St. Joseph's. DeJesus made five saves in
the win.
