GNAC Players of the Week: December 8

Iman Davis (Women’s Basketball, Emmanuel), Lamonte Thomas
(Men’s Basketball, Johnson & Wales), and Sarah Wheeler
(Women’s Swimming, St. Joseph (CT)) have been named Great
Northeast Athletic Conference Players of the Week.

Women’s Basketball – Iman Davis, Emmanuel,

Davis led the Saints to another undefeated week, upsetting 14th
ranked Brandeis College, 78-67, on Dec. 1 and defeating Endicott
College, 59-55, on Dec. 5. The senior guard shot 52% from the floor
and 86% from the free throw line in the two contents. Emmanuel is
currently in 1st place in the GNAC standings with an undefeated 6-0
record. The Saints next take travel to face Amherst College on Dec.
8.
Men’s Basketball – Lamonte Thomas, Johnson
& Wales, So., Providence, R.I.

Points (78/26.00 per game), Rebounds (14/4.67 per game) Assists
(8/2.67 per game)
In a perfect 3-0 week, Thomas led the Wildcats in scoring with
26.0 points per game, including 21 points in an upset victory over
Rhode Island College, 72-70, on Dec. 1. Thomas followed that
performance by scoring 32 points, including 8 three pointers, in a
win over Salve Regina, 71-53, on Dec. 3. Johnson & Wales also
defeated Suffolk, 95-80, on Dec. 5 to round out its undefeated
week. Johnson & Wales is currently in 1st place in the GNAC
standings with a GNAC record of 2-0 and an overall record of 4-4.
The Wildcats next face the Monks of St. Joseph’s (ME) on Dec.
9.
Women’s Swimming - Sarah Wheeler, St. Joseph (CT),
Jr., Winchendon Springs, Mass.
Wheeler set three meet records, one pool record, and was the only
swimmer to win four individual events at the GNAC Championship Meet
on Dec. 6. Her winning time of 28.44 in the 50-yard butterfly broke
her own meet record from 2008, as well as five year-old pool
record. She also took first place in the 200-yard individual medley
with a time of 2.21.20, and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of
57.88. Wheeler was also a member of the 400-yard medley relay team
that finished in second place. St. Joseph (CT) finished the GNAC
Championship Meet in 4th place with 114 points. Following the meet,
Wheeler was named to the 2009 GNAC Swimming & Diving
All-Tournament Team for her efforts in the 200-yard individual
medley, 50-yard fly, 200-yard fly, and the 100-yard freestyle
events.
