
GNAC Players of the Week: January 11

Ashley Arbo (Women's Swimming, Elms), Ray Askew (Men's Basketball,
Albertus Magnus), and Kristin LeBel (Women's Basketball, Emmanuel)
have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Players of the
Week.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Women's Swimming - Ashley Arbo, Elms, So., Kensington, Conn.
Arbo added a pair of top finishes, picking up back-to-back wins in the 200-meter individual medley (2:47.58) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:14.67) against Mount St. Mary's (NY) on Jan. 9. Arbo also earned first place as a part of the 200-meter freestyle relay team. Her team's time (1:59.71) set a new school record, shattering the previous record set in 2006 (2:06.19). The Blazers won the meet, 102-95, and improved to 3-3 on the season. This is the third time this season that Arbo has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week. She was previously honored on Nov. 23 and Dec. 14. Arbo and Elms College next take to the pool against Clark on Jan. 15.

Askew scored 34 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help the Falcons
remain unbeaten in the GNAC, defeating Norwich, 92-87, on Jan.
9. The sophomore forward also added 19 points and 17 rebounds
in a 92-71 loss against Division I Yale University on Jan. 7.
Rounding out the week, Albertus Magnus lost to Trinity College,
88-75, on Jan. 6. As of Jan. 7, Askew was ranked 2nd in the
GNAC in points (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (11.8 rpg), 6th in blocked
shots (1.6 pg), and 12th in field goal percentage (.500).
Albertus Magnus leads the GNAC in scoring, averaging 82.3 points
per game as a team. The Falcons are currently in 2nd place in
the GNAC with a conference record of 3-0 and an overall record of
7-3. Albertus Magnus next faces off against Emerson on Jan.

Women's Basketball - Kristin LeBel, Emmanuel, Jr.,

LeBel scored a game-high 19 points and the then 23rd ranked
Emmanuel Saints upset the then 5th ranked, and previously
undefeated, Bowdoin Polar Bears, 61-53, on Jan. 9. The junior
guard averaged 14.3 points per game and shot 38.1% (16 for 42) from
the floor for the week. The Saints bounced back to beat
Bowdoin after losing to then 15th ranked Tufts, 57-51, on Jan.
5. The Saints are now ranked #25 in Division III, while
Bowdoin fell to #8 and Tufts moved up to #11. In their
conference opener on Jan. 7, St. Joseph's (ME) defeated the Saints,
60-47, marking just the second time since 2006 that Emmanuel has
lost to a GNAC opponent. As of Jan. 7, LeBel was ranked 4th
in the GNAC in points (14.9 ppg) and free throw percentage (.857),
and is 12th in three-point field goals made (1.6 pg). This is
the second time this season, and second week in a row that LeBel
has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week. Emmanuel is
currently in a six-way tie for 3rd place in the GNAC with a
conference record of 0-1 and an overall record of 9-3. The
Saints next play the Lasell Lasers on Jan. 12.
